‘Taylor is not important’: Courtney Love disses ‘Lover’ singer, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, and Madonna
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent interview with The Standard, rock icon Courtney Love didn't hold back while sharing her opinion on several prominent female musicians, including Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey, and Madonna.
Love dismissed Taylor Swift's significance as an artist, stating, "Taylor is not important."
While acknowledging Swift's influence as a role model for young girls, Love criticized her lack of artistic depth, comparing her to Madonna but asserting that Swift falls short in terms of interest and innovation.
Courtney Love takes potshots at fellow female musicians
The singer said about Taylor Swift in an interview with The Standard, “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”
Although Love invoked Madonna to address Swift's success, he didn’t spare Madonna, either.
“I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me,” Love said.
Expressing her disapproval of Beyonce's latest venture into country music with 'Cowboy Carter', Love appreciated the album's thematic significance but confessed that she doesn't enjoy Beyonce's musical style.
“As a concept, I love it,” Love said. “I just don’t like her music.”
Lana Del Rey also found herself in Love's crosshairs, with Love suggesting that Del Rey should take a hiatus from music.
While acknowledging Del Rey's earlier work, Love expressed disappointment at her recent output, particularly her cover of John Denver's 'Take Me Home Country Roads'.
“I think she should really take seven years off,” Love said, noting she hasn’t enjoyed Lana’s music “since she covered a John Denver song".
"Up until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ I thought she was great,” Love continued.
“When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
“It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but lots of them are becoming a cliche,” she said.
“Now, every successful woman is cloned, so there is just too much music. They’re all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you get bombarded with a lot of stuff that’s exactly the same.”
Courtney Love reveals her musical preferences
While Courtney Love may have strong opinions about certain contemporary female musicians, there are artists from the past and present whom she admires and respects.
Among those who received Love's seal of approval are iconic figures such as Patti Smith, Debbie Harry of Blondie, and legendary jazz vocalists Nina Simone and Billie Holiday. Love holds these artists in high regard for their contributions to music and their unique artistic voices.
Additionally, Love expresses admiration for the early albums of PJ Harvey and Joni Mitchell, recognizing their significance and influence in the music industry.
While Courtney Love may not be a fan of Taylor Swift and Beyonce's music, both artists have recently made waves in the music industry and beyond.
Beyonce's latest album 'Cowboy Carter,' achieved significant acclaim and commercial success, marking her eighth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard Top 200.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's upcoming album,'The Tortured Poet Department', is highly anticipated and expected to debut at number one upon its release on April 19.
