Taylor Swift goes wild as Harrison Butker's last-minute field goal secures Chiefs' victory over Bengals
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Swift's enthusiasm for the Kansas City Chiefs was on full display following their thrilling victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 15.
The 34-year-old pop superstar was seen celebrating energetically as Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker secured a dramatic 26-25 win with a last-minute field goal.
Taylor Swift’s excitement on display amid controversial remarks by Harrison Butker
Positioned high in her suite at Arrowhead Stadium, Taylor Swift was caught on CBS cameras enthusiastically hugging fellow Chiefs fans. Her excitement was palpable as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his team celebrated their second consecutive win of the season.
Butker, who has been a controversial figure recently, sparked debate earlier this year with his commencement speech at Benedictine College. In his address, the 29-year-old kicker made headlines for his comments on women and Pride Month, which included a reference to Taylor Swift and her relationship with Kelce.
During his May speech, Butker quoted a line from Swift’s 2022 song “Bejeweled,” stating, “As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘familiarity breeds contempt.’”

He also expressed controversial views about women’s roles and aspirations, suggesting that while “some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
He further stated, “I want to speak directly to you briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”
Swift remains silent as Butker faces backlash and Kelce defends teammate
Swift did not directly respond to Butker's remarks, which were part of a broader and contentious speech. Butker, who signed a lucrative four-year, $26.5 million contract extension with the Chiefs in August, became the NFL’s highest-paid kicker.
Travis Kelce addressed the controversy on his podcast 'New Heights', stating, “I cherish him as a teammate.”
He acknowledged that while he did not agree with much of Butker's views, he respected his right to his beliefs, particularly regarding his family and religious views.
“When it comes down to his views and what he said at the commencement speech, you know, those are his,” Kelce told his brother Jason Kelce.
“I can’t say I agree with the majority of it — or just about any of it — outside of just him loving his family or his kids. I don’t think I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views of how he goes about life.”
Taylor Swift’s animated reactions and Jim Nantz's playful commentary highlight game
Earlier in the game, Swift was also captured on camera reacting to a play where Kelce was just short of a touchdown in the third quarter. Her exuberant response — “Oh my God, Travis! Oh my God! Oh my God!” -- highlighted her passionate support.
CBS play-by-play analyst Jim Nantz playfully remarked on Swift’s reactions, linking them to her recent MTV Video Music Awards success, where she won seven awards.
“Someone wanted a touchdown! Someone wanted to see six after she got seven Wednesday night at the VMAs!” Nantz quipped.
The Kansas City Chiefs will look to continue their winning streak when they face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 22.
