Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance has criticized Taylor Swift for her endorsement of Kamala Harris, calling her a "disconnected" billionaire celebrity.

In a September 11 interview, Vance downplayed Swift's influence, suggesting that most Americans, regardless of their opinion on her music, are unlikely to be swayed by a wealthy celebrity out of touch with their concerns. The comment drew some confusion, given Vance's own party's nominee, Donald Trump, also has a net worth exceeding $1 billion.

Taylor Swift’s decision to endorse Kamala Harris for president was reportedly influenced by Donald Trump's "arrogant" performance in a recent debate. The pop star, who had been hesitant about publicly supporting a candidate, was alarmed by Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric, including his accusations against Democrats and migrants.

Swift's Instagram endorsement, posted on September 10, received over 2.8 million likes in under an hour and was driven by her concern over Trump's behavior, described as "dishonest" and "crass." Sources suggest Swift’s support for Harris is motivated by a desire to counter hate and division and that she may also make a donation to Harris's campaign.
