WASHINGTON, DC: After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris following the debate on Tuesday, September 10, a voter registration website experienced a surge of hundreds of thousands of visitors.

On Tuesday evening, the pop star expressed her support for Harris in the 2024 election through an Instagram post.

A representative from the General Services Administration told The Independent that by 2 pm ET on Wednesday, September 11, Vote.gov had received 337,826 visits through the custom URL shared by Swift.

It's important to note that Vote.gov is not a voter registration site; rather, it directs voters to their state election websites for specific voting information.

Given Taylor Swift's influence and her history of encouraging her followers to register to vote, her endorsement was highly sought after.

For a long time leading up to the debate, there was speculation about whether Taylor Swift would ever endorse Kamala Harris. The singer's fan base, Swifties for Kamala, worked tirelessly to rally support for Harris even before Swift officially backed the Vice President.

A spokesperson for Vote.org told The Independent that there was a 585 percent increase in the use of Vote.org's registration and verification tools between 9 pm and midnight Eastern Time, compared to the same time frame over the previous eight days.

Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey stated, “Taylor Swift’s impact on voter engagement is undeniable. The important thing to remember is that Taylor’s work serves as a model that everyone with a platform can use to encourage Americans to participate in civic engagement. At the heart of it all, every American is an influencer and can help people around them register, vote, and protect access to the ballot box.”

Hailey expresses pride in their year-long efforts and the subsequent youth involvement in this election cycle.

She stated, "Younger voters under 35 have accounted for 79% of the over one million new voters we have registered, and 18-year-olds account for over one-third of new registrations. With an 81% rate of converting registrations into votes, we are ready to reach even more voters with the trusted information they need to register and then turn them out to the polls.”

Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris sparks mixed reactions on social media

After Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris, "Taylor Swift Instagram" quickly became a trending topic on social media, igniting a wave of reactions from users.

"It was actually 300,000 visits to the vote link she provided, not necessarily registrations. I wish that though," a user said.

Another claimed, "If only. The 348K+ wasn't all new voter registrations... it included people checking to see if they were registered (good) and others checking out the site. We need to wait to see how many really registered before we do the happy dance."

The third commentator mocked, "How are those numbers verified? Lmfao here is a stat for you - 99% of people on this platform are gullible."

A Trump supporter expressed hope that visitors to the website would vote for the former president, stating, "Hopefully they're voting for @realDonaldTrump."

"Stop her from trending. Put out a fire by denying it oxygen. Let her wilt on the vine of oblivion," a person criticized Swift for her endorsement.
