WASHINGTON, DC: Ousted Republican Congressman George Santos has announced his plan to run for Congress again, reported CBS News.

The former New York lawmaker took to X on Thursday, March 7, declaring his plan to run against Rep Nick LaLota in New York's First Congressional District.

"Tonight, I want to announce that I will be returning to the arena of politics and challenging Nick for the battle over #NY1. I look forward to debating him on the issues and his weak record as a Republican. The fight for our majority is imperative for the survival of the country," he wrote.

Santos, who appeared on the House floor to attend President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on Thursday, represented New York's 3rd District before he was expelled.

He made history by being the sixth House member to get ousted in December 2023 for violating federal law and misusing campaign money for personal expenditures. He will go into trial in September for the 23 federal charges against him.

Santos's announcement post started with his disappointment over Biden's State of the Union address, which he described as "a weak, frail president deliver spin and lies to the American people from inside the chambers."

He further claimed about the "several personal sacrifices" he had made while serving the people of America, adding he would "never back down" due to his love for the nation.

Taking a swipe at Rep. LaLota, Santos said, "New York hasn't had a real conservative represent them since I left office arbitrarily, thanks to RINO, empty suits like @nicklalota. He is willing to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his political gain."

According to a report by Mediaite, LaLota was one of the first Republican members who urged the House Ethics Committee to address Santos's numerous false claims in December 2022, soon after they entered the House for the first time.

Republicans lost a House seat after Democrat Tom Suozzi won the special election in February to replace Santos.

In response to the challenge, LaLota, in a statement, said, "To raise the standard in Congress and to hold a pathological liar who stole an election accountable, I led the charge to expel George Santos. If finishing the job requires beating him in a primary, count me in."
