‘The View’ co-hosts under fire for supporting Rosie O’Donnell’s move to Ireland to escape Trump

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The View' co-hosts supported comedian and former show host Rosie O’Donnell’s decision to permanently move to Ireland after Donald Trump became the president for the second time.
They said the move was a fair response to Trump returning to the White House, according to Fox News.
O’Donnell revealed earlier this week that she has been living in Ireland for nearly two months following Donald Trump’s 2024 election win.

'The View' co-hosts support Rosie O'Donnell's move to Ireland
'The View' co-hosts Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin defended Rosie O' Donnell's decision on the Friday, March 14, episode of the talk show.
They said the US was becoming a difficult place to live for people like her, per the outlet.
Hostin said the US "doesn’t seem to be working for everyone" and suggested that O’Donnell’s freedom was somehow threatened by Trump's second run as the president.
Navarro agreed that the comedian's decision to leave the US was on point, considering the treatment she got from Trump over the years, and the threat the president allegedly represents while in office again, per Fox News.
She said, "But I do know if you’re Rosie O’Donnell, who he hates and – in fairness, she hates him, it’s mutual – and you are listening to him threaten Liz Cheney, and you’re looking at him go after law firms, and you are listening to him saying he’s coming back to be the retribution, and you know how ruthless and vicious he is, and that he personally hates you, and you have a 12-year-old with special needs… then you make the hard decision of leaving."
Navarro added, "Good for her. She’s fought for her entire life. She’s putting herself first. I’m very supportive."
However, political strategist Alyssa Farah Griffin disagreed that America isn’t a free place for some under Trump.
She said, "I do think it’s important to remember that America’s bigger than the president. This country is bigger than who is president for four years."
"I just think it’s important people remember — there are places I wouldn’t be able to get IVF treatments in Europe. Like we put – and love my European friends – but we put everyone else on this pedestal and act like America is so backward and broken. It’s not," Griffin added.

Meanwhile, Hostin said, "It’s a pretty young democracy that doesn’t seem to be working right now", as Griffin replied, "I believe more in America than Donald Trump’s ability to ruin it."

"I'm here in Ireland, and it's beautiful and warm – not physically, it's actually quite cold," the 62-year-old began in part. "Moved here on Jan 15, and it's been pretty wonderful, I have to say," she added.
"The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming, and I'm very grateful," O'Donnell said.
Explaining her decison, O'Donnell said, "Although I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that's what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child," referring to her youngest daughter, Dakota, also known as Clay.
"It's been heartbreaking to see what's happening politically and hard for me personally, as well. The personal is political, as we all know," she added.
O'Donnell said she did not plan to return to the US till things changed.
"When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that's when we will consider coming back," she said, per ABC News.
