‘It takes character’: ‘The View’ hosts laud Biden’s decision to ‘pass the torch’ and bow out of 2024 race
WASHINGTON, DC: Co-hosts of 'The View' took to social media to express their opinion about President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
On Sunday, July 21, President Joe Biden took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that he is withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race.
'The View' co-hosts laud Joe Biden's decision to not seek reelection
Minutes after Joe Biden shared his decision to not pursue reelection in November, The View’s conservative panelists, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro, voiced their approval of the move on social media.
Griffin, 35, who previously served on the White House communications team under former president Donald Trump, tweeted, “The public interest in this presidential race was already very high. That interest just went through the roof. The whole country will be watching the next few weeks and the Democratic Convention.”
She continued, “It takes character and integrity to know when it’s time to pass the torch. Grateful to @JoeBiden for doing what he knows is best for the country and giving another generation of leadership a chance.”

Anna Navarro, 52, also expressed her support by sharing a graphic on X (formerly Twitter) that read, “Thank you for everything.”
She further posted a picture of herself with Vice President Kamala Harris—who Biden endorsed as his choice for the Democratic nominee in his stead—captioning it, “We so ready.”
'The View' hosts had expressed concerns about Joe Biden’s candidacy
This reaction from The View’s co-hosts was not unexpected, as Alyssa Farah Griffin and fellow hosts Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin had previously raised concerns about Joe Biden’s ability to continue his campaign following his debate with Trump on June 27.
After the disastrous debate, the co-hosts of the morning talk show made an impassioned call for the 81-year-old to step down and let another Democrat take his place in facing off against Trump in November.
Griffin had publicly urged Biden to “put country before his own ambition” and to “step aside and pass the baton” to a new candidate.
Joe Biden’s official announcement and endorsement of Kamala Harris
In his announcement on Sunday, Joe Biden revealed that he would not be seeking the Democratic Party's nomination and pledged his support for Kamala Harris.
Biden’s statement on X read, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Factors influencing Joe Biden’s decision to step down
Joe Biden’s decision to step down was influenced by a combination of factors, including persistent calls from both Democrats and Republicans, as well as high-profile figures such as George Clooney, who had recently penned a New York Times op-ed urging Biden to withdraw from the race.
The announcement also came after a particularly tumultuous week in American politics. On July 13, Trump survived an assassination attempt during a Pennsylvania rally, followed by a chaotic Republican National Convention featuring a diverse lineup of speakers including model Amber Rose, reality star Savannah Chrisley, long-time Trump critic Nikki Haley, and Hulk Hogan.
