Thousands sing petition calling for Nicki Minaj’s deportation after AmericaFest appearance
PHOENIX, ARIZONA: A petition demanding the deportation of rapper Nicki Minaj has gained thousands of signatures, sparking backlash and debate online.
The petition surfaced after Minaj appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest.
The petition, gaining traction on social media and fringe forums, is calling on US officials to deport the Trinidad-born artist.
With more than 17,000 signatures, the petition compiles a mix of complaints, including allegations of harassment involving Jay-Z and Beyonce and renewed attention to the criminal history of Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.
What sparked the petition
The petition follows outrage tied to Minaj’s appearance at Turning Point USA alongside Erika Kirk.
At the event, the rapper shared comments praising traditional gender roles, including remarks along the lines of "boys should be boys," as well as openly praised President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The interaction was seized upon by political activists and critics, who accused Minaj of aligning even indirectly with MAGA messaging.
Soon after the appearance, a Change.org petition titled "Deport Nicki Minaj to Trinidad" began to circulate.
Directed at US authorities such as the White House and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the petition says, "Nicki Minaj's actions and words have taken a turn that has left many of her supporters and those who once found solace in her music feeling deeply betrayed."
"This is personal for those of us who watched Nicki rise as a beacon of hope, only to feel abandoned by her shift in values. Nicki's status in the United States is not based on citizenship, which raises questions about her continued presence here despite her divisive actions and statements," it adds.
Fans become detractors as backlash against Nicki Minaj grows
The petition’s page and related social media discussions were soon flooded with impassioned reactions from former supporters and vocal critics. Commenters expressed deep disappointment with the artist’s recent statements.
One commentator said she had distanced herself years ago over what she described as transphobia, misogyny, and a decline in Minaj’s character and artistry, adding that the latest controversy left her feeling that the rapper should no longer be tolerated.
Another commenter, who said they were from Trinidad, took issue with what they described as Minaj’s selective embrace of her heritage. They criticized her for invoking Trinidadian identity when convenient, while, in their view, bringing negative attention to the culture on an international stage.
