Travis Kelce admits his hand-heart gesture was directed towards Buffalo Bills' fans to ‘spread love’
ERIE COUNTY, NEW YORK: Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce surprised many when he made a hand-heart gesture and blew a kiss to the stands after a game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, January 21.
Many assumed he was sending a message to his girlfriend Taylor Swift who was watching the game from his box.
Travis Kelce reveals the true meaning of his hand-heart gesture
On the 'New Heights' podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, the brothers discussed the atmosphere at the Arrowhead Stadium where the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 27-24 to advance to the Super Bowl.
“The celebration went wild by you with the little heart,” Jason said. Travis Kelce replied saying, “Yeah, man, had to spread the love, baby. You always gotta spread that love, baby."
He said the Bills' fans were very hostile and disrespectful towards the Chiefs players and their families. “There was a lot of hate pulling up to that stadium, man. A lot of understandable hate. It’s a football game,” Travis Kelce said.
“The Bills coming into their house, they want to make it rowdy. Did it get a little disrespectful? One thousand percent. Did it get a little extra? One thousand percent," he added.
Did Buffalo Bills' fans hurt Travis Kelce by booing Taylor Swift?
Taylor Swift was watching the game from a VIP suite with Jason Kelce and his wife Kylie Kelce. He added that he did not want to repeat what the Bills fans said, because “that’s what they want.”
He said some of the comments were “pretty inappropriate” and “pretty whack”, especially about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, Swift was reportedly booed by some of the Bills fans when she was shown on the screen.
PageSix noted that Travis Kelce’s gesture could have been partly influenced by the treatment Swift received. He said he did not hate the Bills fans like they hated the Chiefs and he wanted to show them some love.
“I get it. I get it. You know what I mean, coming into a hostile environment, I respect it, but I just wanted to make sure they knew it wasn’t mutual. I don’t hate you guys like you hate us, it’s all love baby,” he said.
Jason Kelce doesn't feel the same about Buffalo Bills' fans
Jason Kelce, who plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles, was also at the game to support his brother along with his wife Kylie Jason and Taylor Swift.
He said he did not experience the same hostility from the Bills' fans and he even joined them in the celebration after Travis Kelce’s touchdown.
Jason garnered headlines after he stripped off his shirt and jumped into the crowd. “They don’t hate us. I was with them, they love you,” Jason Kelce told his brother.
