Travis Kelce’s sister-in-law Kylie reveals outrageous purchase he made with first NFL paycheck
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: Travis Kelce is no stranger to getting his hands on luxurious items.
Now, Jason Kelce's wife, Kylie Kelce has spilled the beans on the outrageous item her brother-in-law splurged on with his first NFL paycheck.
Travis Kelce’s extravagant Marty McFly shoe splurge
Reportedly, before racking up over $76 million in NFL earnings across his first 11 seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made some bold — and perhaps questionable — financial choices with his initial signing bonus.
During an interview on 94WIP in Philadelphia, Kylie revealed that Travis was thrilled about snagging a pair of Marty McFly shoes, just like the ones Michael J Fox wore in 'Back to the Future II.'
This extravagant purchase prompted his older brother Jason to give him a good scolding during Travis' visit to the City of Brotherly Love that year.
"Early on when we were dating, Travis came into town - I think with the Marty McFly shoes," Kylie reminisced.
"I didn’t get to meet Travis that time, but Jason later told me how he gave Travis a hard time after learning how much he spent on them. It’s warranted."
The shoes, inspired by the movie 'Back to the Future II,' are currently listed at $38,500 on StockX. To top it off, Kelce paired the footwear with a Rolex watch.
The exact price Travis paid for the shoes remains a mystery, but his purchase coincided with Nike’s auction of 1,500 pairs on eBay to support the Michael J Fox Foundation.
As for his rookie contract, Travis shared some details on their 'New Heights' podcast in 2021: "I was slotted in the first pick of the third round to get around $800k, so I ended up receiving around $500k to $600k, after taxes and everything."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a rare pair of light-up, self-lacing shoes, popularized by Michael J Fox’s character Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future Part II', is expected to sell for up to $70,000 at a Sotheby’s sneaker auction.
Travis Kelce reflects on feeling 'like the coolest guy in the world'
The NFL superstar vividly recalled the feeling he had while sporting his prized collectibles, speaking in a 2021 episode of 'New Height's podcast run by him and Jason.
"I was walking into this empty apartment with Marty McFlys on and a Rolex," he said, according to Daily Mail.
"I felt like I was the coolest guy in the world. I'd always wanted those shoes. I'd always been a big Nike guy, and after watching 'Back to the Future' so many frickin' times, seeing what the Nikes would look like in the future—the fact they were anti-gravity and self-tying—it was a dream come true."
Jason chimed in, "Somebody told me you had bought those shoes, and I looked up how much they were. I remember thinking, 'What the f***, Travis?'"
More than a decade later, Kelce has certainly proven his worth, securing a two-year, $34.25 million contract to stay with the Chiefs this offseason. But despite his success, Kylie still stands by her opinion on his first splurge:
"They're so cool, but he deserved a little flack for that one."
Not only for himself, Travis has also made some lavish purchases to show his affection for the pop star, Taylor Swift.
From $75,000 in luxury gifts during Milan Tour stop to $31,000 worth of roses to celebrate End of European Tour, Kelce has been open about his affection for Swift, calling her his "lady" and expressing pride in their relationship.
