Trevor Noah roasted after joke about Trump and immigrants falls flat at Grammys: 'Too woke and not funny'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Trevor Noah’s gig as Grammy host got off to a rather bumpy start this time around. The South African comedian — who has hosted the awards show five years in a row — wasted no time taking a jab at President Donald Trump’s immigration policies right out of the gate.
Noah’s opening monologue had people talking for all the wrong reasons when he decided to crack a joke about “illegal immigrants.”
A lot of them cringed when Trevor Noah said that “20 million illegal immigrants” line, including Docheii.

Trevor Noah's jokes fall flat
The 67th Grammy Awards started with a tribute to its host city Los Angeles, which has been reeling from a series of deadly wildfires. Trevor Noah's emotional opening gave the audience a moment to appreciate the resilience of the City of Angels — but that warm, feel-good energy didn’t last long, Radar Online noted.
Explaining how the Grammy voting process works, Noah began, “We’re going to be honoring the best in music as voted on by the 13,000 members of the recording academy.” He then joked: “And 20 million illegal immigrants.”
There was an awkward silence peppered with a couple of nervous chuckles.
Sensing the tension (or maybe just doubling down), Noah quipped: “I don’t know if you noticed, but there have been a few changes in Washington. So I’m going to enjoy tonight because it may be the last time I get to host anything in this country.”
The reaction inside the venue was lukewarm at best. A few stars were seen rolling their eyes, while others just sat stone-faced.
Trevor Noah slammed for distasteful jokes
While the audience wasn’t feeling it, social media downright eviscerated him. Critics on X (formerly Twitter) wasted no time roasting Trevor Noah, calling his joke tone-deaf and just plain unfunny.
"Dude I WISH that was the case haha Trevor couldn’t make a baby laugh," one posted on X.
"I mean we don’t want him anyway. Too woke and not funny!" another wrote.
"Yes, exactly what we need, more catastrophizing and self-victimization. people really like that and it’s clearly worked so well!" one user chimed in.
"Rule #1 in the DEI playbook….’Always play the victim,'" a comment read.
"He spent every day of Trump's first presidency saying the same dumb line..." someone else noted.
"If Trevor Noah never hosted or talked on TV again, I would vote for Trump a million times. I'd make him King," another remarked.

Immigration is a hot-button issue
Trevor Noah’s ill-fated joke touched on one of Donald Trump’s most contentious policies—immigration. His administration has been ramping up deportations and cracking down on sanctuary cities like Chicago and San Francisco.
Just last week, immigration officials had wrapped up a series of nationwide raids and removed thousands of criminals — with the White House applauding ICE for capturing what they called “some of the most dangerous offenders.”
The administration has also increased daily arrests, pushing numbers from a few hundred to a staggering 1,200-1,500.
Some of Trevor Noah's jokes actually landed
Of course, Trevor Noah had some celebrity jabs ready, too. He playfully roasted Nick Cannon’s ever-growing family before setting his sights on Beyonce, who was leading the pack with 11 nominations.
“She’s nominated in Best Country, Best Pop, Best Americana, and Best Melodic Rap,” he quipped and added, “Yeah, Andre 3000 better watch out next year—she’s coming for that flute.”
Now, that one actually got some laughs.
