Trump crowns Clay Fuller, buries Greene as he brands her 'traitor' in Georgia election victory post
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Wednesday, April 8, publicly criticized former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene in a social media post following a closely watched special election in Georgia.
Trump referred to Greene as a “traitor” while congratulating Republican candidate Clay Fuller on his victory.
Fuller, who had secured Trump’s endorsement earlier in the race, won the runoff election to fill Greene’s vacant congressional seat. The result maintains Republican control of the district and draws attention to Trump’s continued influence within the party.
Trump criticizes MTG and praises Clay Fuller's victory
In a statement posted on X, Trump sharply criticized Greene while endorsing Fuller’s win and performance in the race.
He wrote, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown’s (GREEN TURNS TO BROWN UNDER STRESS!) seat in Congress has been taken over by a wonderful and talented man, Clay Fuller, who won convincingly, and right from the beginning, despite many people running for that ‘TRUMP’ +37 seat, and despite the stench left by Greene. Congratulations to Clay Fuller, a very large improvement over his deranged predecessor!”
Fuller had received Trump’s endorsement earlier in the election cycle, a factor that observers noted helped him consolidate support within a crowded Republican primary field.
The race was seen as a test of Trump’s political influence ahead of the upcoming national elections. Fuller will now serve out the remainder of Greene’s term, which runs until January.
Greene, once a prominent ally of Trump, had resigned earlier this year after breaking with the former president, setting the stage for the special election.
Her departure triggered a competitive contest among Republicans seeking to retain control of the strongly conservative district.
Clay Fuller credits Trump endorsement as decisive factor
Fuller defeated Democrat Shawn Harris, keeping the district in Republican hands and helping preserve the party’s narrow 217–214 majority in the House of Representatives.
A lieutenant colonel in the Georgia Air National Guard, Fuller will complete the remainder of Greene’s term.
Following the result, he credited Trump’s backing as decisive, stating, “He was the difference-maker. He made all the difference in the world. It was the honour of my lifetime to be able to get his endorsement.”
The runoff followed a 10 March special election in which no candidate secured a majority, partly due to a crowded Republican field splitting the vote. Fuller had emerged as a leading contender in that initial round.
The contest drew national attention as a gauge of Trump’s standing among Republican voters.
Thank you, Northwest Georgia.

This wasn’t the result we wanted, but the message is clear — people here are ready for leadership that puts them first.

Political analysts noted that his endorsement strategy appeared aimed at appealing to a broader base within the party.
Meanwhile, Harris signaled he would continue his campaign efforts, saying on social media, “This wasn't the result we wanted, but the message is clear: people here are ready for leadership that puts them first. The fight continues. On to November!”
