Trump posts AI image of Jesus embracing him following ‘blasphemy’ backlash
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Wednesday, April 15, shared an AI-generated image depicting Jesus embracing him, days after facing criticism for a separate image that portrayed him in the likeness of Christ.
The latest post, reshared on Truth Social, drew renewed attention due to its religious imagery and the timing following backlash from segments of his conservative base.
Trump defended the image in his caption, while critics pointed to a pattern of controversial AI-generated posts.
Trump reposts AI image, calls it ‘quite nice’
The image, originally posted by a pro-Trump account on X, shows Trump and Jesus in a close embrace in front of an American flag.
The original post was accompanied by a caption referencing religion and current events, which Trump later reshared as a screenshot on his Truth Social account.
“The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote alongside the image.

The post comes shortly after Trump faced criticism for another AI-generated image shared on Orthodox Easter, in which he was depicted as Jesus.
That image showed him wearing a white robe and red sash, holding a glowing orb and placing a hand on a figure lying in what appeared to be a hospital bed.

The earlier post prompted swift reactions, including from conservative Christian voices.
Some described it as inappropriate, with journalist Megan Basham calling it “OUTRAGEOUS blasphemy,” while commentator Cam Higby said he spends “8 hours a day” defending Trump but “will not defend blasphemy.”

Q: Did you post that picture of yourself depicted as Jesus Christ?

Following the backlash, the image was removed. When asked about it by reporters, Trump said, “I thought it was me as a doctor. Only the fake news could come up with that,” adding, “I make people better.”
Trump's AI posts draw criticism amid tensions
The controversy surrounding the images comes against the backdrop of previous posts involving AI-generated or digitally altered visuals shared by Trump or his campaign.
Earlier this week, the Orthodox Easter post followed comments in which Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, describing him as too liberal and “weak on crime,” remarks that also drew criticism.
The administration has previously faced scrutiny for similar content. Last year, an AI-generated image depicted Trump dressed as the pope shortly after the death of Pope Francis and before Pope Leo XIV was elected.
In another instance, Trump shared an AI-generated clip portraying former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes, which he later removed following backlash.
Other controversial posts have included fabricated or altered images depicting law enforcement actions and stylized portrayals of immigrants, as well as misleading endorsements attributed to public figures such as Taylor Swift.
