Trump reveals secret Hormuz mission, claims US moved 100M barrels of oil into global markets
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday, June 10, that he had authorized what he described as a covert military effort to safeguard commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the operation helped prevent a major disruption to global energy markets.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that the mission was launched last month and involved US military support for oil tankers and commercial vessels traveling through the critical maritime chokepoint.

Trump reveals secret Hormuz mission
Trump made the bold claim on Truth Social and while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday.
"Last month, I directed our Great US Military to execute a secret mission to support Oil Tankers and other Commercial Ships through the Strait of Hormuz," Trump wrote.
According to the president, the operation enabled more than 200 commercial vessels to transit the region safely while helping move over 100 million barrels of oil into international markets.
Trump used the announcement to make a broader geopolitical point, arguing that Iran no longer holds meaningful leverage over the vital shipping lane.
"This wildly successful effort is because the UNITED STATES of AMERICA CONTROLS the Strait of Hormuz, NOT Iran," Trump declared.
The president also delivered a sharp assessment of Tehran's position following months of conflict and military pressure. "Their military is defeated, and their economy is lost. It's over for Iran!" he wrote.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important energy corridors, with a significant share of global oil exports passing through the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to international shipping routes.
Trump claims operation prevented inflation
Hours after his Truth Social announcement, Trump expanded on the operation during remarks in the Oval Office, suggesting that the effort had already played a major role in stabilizing global energy prices.
"We've been taking out millions of barrels of oil, millions of barrels," Trump said. "Every night, we took out oil." The president indicated he had deliberately kept the operation under wraps until now.
"It was very hard for me. I wanted to say it so badly, but I didn't want to ruin it," Trump told reporters.
According to Trump, increasing the flow of oil through the region prevented a dramatic spike in energy costs that could have rippled across the global economy.
"That's why it said $85, $90 a barrel instead of $250," he said. Throughout his remarks, Trump repeatedly praised the American military, arguing that no other nation could have carried out such an operation.
The president also predicted that energy prices could decline further once ongoing tensions in the region are fully resolved.
"When it's over, you will see oil drop to where it was before," Trump said.
