WASHINGTON, DC: Just when it seemed like Melania Trump's heartfelt words about Donald Trump's rally shooting might have mended public perceptions of their seemingly strained marriage, the former president's recent remarks have sparked fresh speculation and snarky online commentary.

In case you missed it, Melania made her first formal comments on the incident through a post on X. She aimed to present a more empathetic side of Trump, a side that critics argue he seldom shows. However, whether her words succeeded in softening the hearts of Trump's detractors remains unclear, as per MSNBC.

Donald Trump undermines Melania's efforts during recent interview

Trump may have inadvertently undermined Melania's efforts during a recent interview with Fox News. He recounted his wife's reaction to the assassination attempt against him, and his choice of words left many questioning the solidity of their relationship.

"I said, 'So what was your feeling.' And she can't really even talk about it, which is okay because that means she likes me, or she loves me," Trump recalled during the interview.

"I mean, let's say she could talk about it freely, that wouldn't be... I'm not so sure which one is better. But she either likes or loves me, and that's nice, but I will say this, when I went down, she thought the worst had happened," he continued.

With nearly two decades of marriage, one might expect Trump to be confident in his wife's love and support. However, his comments suggested a lingering uncertainty about Melania's feelings towards him, leaving observers puzzled.

The notion that he isn't sure if she "likes" or "loves" him, especially after an assassination attempt, has raised eyebrows and fueled further speculation about the state of their relationship.

Adding to the intrigue, a report from Axios revealed that Melania has no plans to return to Washington, DC, if her husband wins a second term.

The article suggests that she would rather split her time between the couple's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and New York City, where Trump Tower is located.

A group of experts on Melania, colloquially dubbed "Melania-ologists," told Axios that the former First Lady would likely not take up full-time residence in the White House. Instead, she would only make appearances for a select number of ceremonial duties and special events, such as state dinners.

The report did not clarify whether these occasional visits would include her often-controversial approach to decorating the White House during the Christmas season.

Donald Trump's comments about his relationship with Melania spark trolling online

The internet was quick to react to Trump's comments about his relationship with Melania, with many mocking his apparent insecurity.

One X user commented, "Imagine having to reassure yourself that the person you’ve spent so many years with and had children with, likes you. Hint: she doesn’t." Another quipped, "She's so disappointed she can't talk about it."

The sentiment was echoed by another user who bluntly stated, "Melania hates him. That is clear to everyone." The humor continued with one user writing, "Hahaha! No, she’s just upset he missed," while another said, "Trump is simply an idiot!"

A more critical comment read, "It's the disappointment Donny, it's the disappointment." A seventh user posted, "This just means Melania isn’t talking to him. No wonder." Another added, "Logic inference has never been a strong side of him."
