'I'll get impeached': Video of Trump warning Republicans to win midterms resurfaces
WASHINGTON, DC: A resurfaced video is making the rounds featuring President Donald Trump cautioning House Republicans that losing their slim majority could open the door to yet another impeachment saga.
The footage dates back to a January 6 GOP policy retreat in Washington, where Trump delivered a blunt message to lawmakers as the clock ticks down to the November 3 midterm elections.
Trump warns GOP about midterm impeachment risk
In the roughly one-minute clip circulating on social media, Trump framed the midterm elections as a survival test for Republican policy priorities as well as his own standing in Washington.
Trump: You gotta win the midterms. Because if we don't win the midterms, I'll get impeached.

"You got to win the midterms, because if we don't win the midterms, it's just going to be, I mean, they'll find a reason to impeach me. I'll get impeached," he said at the time. Trump faced impeachment twice during his first stint in the Oval Office and was acquitted both times by the Senate, but he warned Republicans that Democrats would pounce if handed the gavel. He argued that Democrats are "meaner than we are" and would not hesitate to take action if they retake control of the House.
The remarks were delivered before a gathering of House Republicans at the Kennedy Center, which was renamed in Trump’s honor by a board made up of his appointees.
Social media erupts over Trump impeachment remarks
The resurfaced video saw Trump's critics express support for the prospect of impeachment. "That’s what we’re hoping for you orange diaper-wearing Epstein files participant, one posted on X.
"He doesn’t want to win for any other reason than to avoid being impeached again?" another wondered. "Well, at least he still has the wherewithal to acknowledge his own corruption and criminal misconduct," a comment read.

He doesn’t want to win for any other reason than to avoid being impeached again?

Trump supporters, however, fired back with their own commentary. "Hopefully Trump becomes the dictator you think he is and cancels the elections," a person quipped.
"Hasn't he already been impeached twice? Honestly... Why would he care about one more?" another asked. "Doesn’t matter. It takes 2/3 of the senate to impeach him. That will never happen," someone else declared.

Trump eyes House majority in midterms
During a recent interview with Fox News, Trump reiterated his belief that his opponents are constantly searching for ways to take him down.
"They'll find something. There'll be something," he said during an appearance on 'The Will Cain Show'. "I made the wrong turn at an exit, and let's impeach him. They did that before. They impeached me on a perfect phone call, turned out. They impeached me twice and, by the way, I won the impeachments very easily and quickly, but they impeach. They're very nasty people [and] they have bad policy."

Midterm elections have traditionally been challenging for whichever party occupies the White House. Since the 1930s, the president’s party has almost always lost House seats during midterm contests and often control of the chamber altogether.
Trump acknowledged that reality during his conversation with Cain. "Whether it's Republican or Democrat, when they win, it doesn't make any difference. They seem to lose the midterms, so that's the only thing I worry about," he said. "Maybe they [voters] want to put up a guard fence. You just don't know. It doesn't make sense. Even if a president did well, they seemed to lose the midterms, but hopefully we're going to change that around."
At present, Republicans hold a paper-thin majority in the United States House of Representatives, controlling 218 seats compared to 213 held by Democrats.
