LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Adele is preparing to take a long break from music and fame for a while.

The singer, who has been captivating audiences at her Las Vegas residency since November 2022, announced that after her final shows later this year, she will be stepping away from the spotlight for an extended period.

Fans of the singer, who will miss her music, have flooded social media with heartfelt messages for her.

Adele to step away from the spotlight for 'long time'

During a recent show in Munich, Germany, a fan shared a TikTok video where Adele announced her plans for a lengthy hiatus following her Las Vegas residency.

"I just need a rest. I have spent the last seven years building a new life for myself and I want to live it now. I want to live my life that I’ve been building and I will miss you terribly," she said.

"I have 10 shows to do, but after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time. And I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break," she added.

Since November 2022, Adele has been performing her residency at The Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace. She initially announced the residency in 2021 but shocked and disappointed fans by postponing the tour months later.

In an emotional video, the 'Rolling in the Deep' singer explained that the show’s quality wasn’t up to her standards and that neither she nor her crew would be ready to start on time.

After the shows began, Adele extended her residency into 2023 and through most of 2024, with her final performances scheduled from October 25 to November 23 this year.

In July, Adele told Germany’s ZDF public broadcast service that she’s looking to pursue other "creative things."

"I don’t have any plans for new music at all," she said. "I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while."

She also admitted, "I don’t like being famous. I love that I get to make music all the time."

Earlier this year, Adele discussed her struggles with fame. During a concert in February, she addressed photos of herself taken at an NBA game where she appeared upset, Fox News reported.

She clarified that her discomfort stemmed from being filmed without her consent and explained that her unhappy expression was due to the intrusion. "Do you remember that viral meme of me looking like I don't give a flying f---?" she asked the audience, referring to the February 2022 photos.

She mimicked the expression she made in the photos and shared that her demeanor was a result of being filmed against her will.

"I didn't realize they were airing it on TV, I thought it was just in the room," she said, before adding, "I was ignoring, looking everywhere but in the camera because I was very annoyed because I asked not to be filmed, but I guess I was asking it by going. Also my face is just very meme-able, I can't help it."
