FARMINGTON HILLS, MICHIGAN: Oprah Winfrey hosted a glamorous town hall event in support of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris on the night of Thursday, September 19.

Meryl Streep was among the attendees and enthusiastically greeted Harris with, "Hello, President Harris!" before quickly correcting herself.

Harris, with a smile, responded, "47 days!"

The event, titled 'Unite for America', was hosted by Winfrey from suburban Michigan, a crucial battleground state in the upcoming election.

Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Lopez and Julia Roberts also attended the event, as reported by The Wrap.

Oprah Winfrey initiated the event by asking Kamala Harris how she felt after President Biden declared his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. Harris confessed to feeling "a sense of responsibility" in the wake of his decision, because "there's so much at stake".

The duo also engaged with audience members on subjects such as abortion and gun violence.

Present were relatives of Amber Nicole Thurman, who passed away shortly after the enactment of Georgia's abortion ban. The 28-year-old mother died because Georgia barred doctors from doing a simple procedure to save her life.

Harris contended that Thurman's death was preventable and resulted from policies that "criminalize health-care providers... for a doctor or nurse who provides health care".

Harris also highlighted her backing of the Second Amendment and mentioned that she is a gun owner.

"If somebody breaks in my house, they're getting shot," she added. "I probably should not have said that. My staff will deal with that later."

Ross delighted the audience with her enthusiastic greeting to Harris, "Hi, hello, Madame Vice President. It's just an honor. I've actually never met you, which is crazy", before she continued in a subdued tone, "Hi, Oprah."

As laughter rippled through the audience and Harris joined in, Ellis posed her question. "Wait, what did I miss?"

"We just saw each other the other day," Winfrey explained. "Oh, hi, Tracee. Hi."
