PARK CITY, UTAH: Amid the glitz and glamour of the Sundance Film Festival's annual celebration of independent cinema, tensions erupted on the streets of Park City on Sunday afternoon, January 21.

A rally organized by pro-Palestinian activists, featuring dismissed 'Scream' actress Melissa Barrera, brought the festival to a standstill. About 100 chanting demonstrators weaved through traffic on Main Street for over an hour, decrying Israeli policy and American support for what they labeled "genocide in Gaza," as reported by The New York Post.

The 'Let Gaza Live' protest was organized by the Palestinian Solidarity Association of Utah, which stated their goal was to draw attention to the "genocide in Gaza" enabled by US financial and political support of Israel.

Marchers chanted provocative slogans like "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!" and carried signs with messages ranging from criticism of President Joe Biden's Middle East policy to calls for an "intifada everywhere."

One particularly inflammatory chant appeared to praise last October's Hamas attack on an Israeli music festival that killed over 1200 civilians.

Midway through the march, Barrera, star of the new Sundance film 'Your Monster,' joined the procession. She drew significant controversy last November after an Instagram post accused Israel of operating "concentration camps" in Gaza. She was subsequently dismissed from the next 'Scream' movie installment.

The impromptu protest took festival organizers by surprise, causing traffic delays and security concerns. In a statement, Sundance emphasized its political neutrality and disavowed any connection to the march, while working closely with local authorities to maintain order.

Some attendees shouted criticisms of the protest, while others honked car horns or flashed thumbs up in solidarity. Online, a group called 'Film Workers For Palestine' endorsed the rally's message and called the festival "complicit in affirming consent for genocide" for accepting money from Israeli supporters.
