What is Blake Lively’s real name? Ryan Reynolds shares his 'surprise' at just learning wife's secret
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Reynolds has humorously claimed he just discovered his wife Blake Lively’s last name.
The 47-year-old actor took to Instagram on July 31 to celebrate Lively’s new haircare brand, Blake Brown, and jokingly noted his surprise at learning her last name.
Ryan Reynolds posts humorous take on learning Blake Lively’s last name
In a post sharing Blake Lively’s Instagram Story, which showcased her with her signature long blonde hair, Reynolds praised her dedication to her new venture.
He wrote, “I’m obscenely proud of this woman. She’s been working on @blakebrownbeauty for seven years. And the result is exactly what you’d expect of a hyper-obsessive, detail addicted, uncompromising quality control genius.” He humorously added, “Also I just found out her last name is Brown.”
Lively later re-shared Reynolds’ post and clarified the origin of her last name. “Brown is my dad’s last name. He took Lively from my mom & older siblings. Now that I think about it, Ryan Lively has a nice ring to it,” she quipped. “Your move, Reynolds.”
Blake emphasized that using the name Brown instead of Lively was crucial to her because she wanted to highlight the effort she put into it. She didn’t want people to view it as just another celebrity brand.
“I didn’t want to use Lively because I didn’t want people to think that I was just trying to cash in a celebrity brand. I wanted it to stand for itself. I wanted it to earn people’s respect.”
Blake Brown, Lively’s new haircare brand launching in Target on August 4, reflects her personal journey with her hair.
In her initial announcement, Lively expressed the significance of her hair throughout her life, stating, “Ever since I was a kid, through adolescence, early adulthood, motherhood, work, personal life, whenever, wherever, the single most identifiable part about me has always been my personalit— no? Not my personality? Oh… My hair.”
She shared her dedication to creating a line that meets her high standards, emphasizing that the products are “vegan” and “cruelty-free” while also looking “stunning” on shelves.
Described as her "longest companion in [her] life," she stressed the importance of "taking good care" of her long hair.

“To love it well, I’ve found a system that has worked wonders for me, a hack of sorts through decades of working with the very best people in the industry, and silly amounts of trial and error. I spent seven years (I know. It toggles between impressive and wtf took so long) obsessively developing every detail of my newest baby, @blakebrownbeauty,” she noted.
Reynolds and Lively, parents of four, are known for their playful social media banter. During Reynolds' press tour for 'Deadpool & Wolverine', Lively posted an adorable photo of him with a dog, humorously suggesting it made her consider having another baby.
“SOS, he’s trying to get me pregnant again,” she wrote on her Instagram Story earlier this month. “Put the dog that you find adorable in spite of societal k9 expectations away and take off the damn teal suit! Rude.”
A few days later, Lively playfully told Reynolds to stop “missing” her after he shared a selfie of them.
“Stop missing me on your press tour. Get out there and hustle boy,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “(Which is girl code for don’t you ever stop missing me for a second).”
Ryan Reynolds reveals unique co-sleeping routine with Blake Lively and their children
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have a bedtime routine that’s far from conventional, as revealed in Reynolds’ recent appearance on the 'Not Skinny But Not Fat' podcast on July 30.
During the podcast, the 47-year-old actor disclosed that the entire family, including their four children—9-year-old James, 7-year-old Inez, 4-year-old Betty, and baby boy Olin—co-sleeps together. Reynolds shared, “Our kids can’t even go to sleep unless they’re in our bed. As much as I’d say I’d love to spread out and fall asleep normally, I withhold that.”
While the arrangement may sound endearing, Reynolds admits that it does come with its challenges. Despite the close quarters and the potential discomfort of not having enough space, he expressed a deep appreciation for the family’s shared time.
Co-sleeping can raise significant safety concerns, particularly for infants. According to KidsHealth.org, it increases risks such as suffocation, strangulation, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Nevertheless, Reynolds emphasized his contentment with their current setup. He reflected on the chaos of parenthood, stating, “Having kids is kind of awesome. I think it’s embroiled that we’ve embraced the chaos. Like, we have four kids and nothing’s gonna be tidy ever again.”
Reynolds also highlighted the fleeting nature of family time, noting, “My wife always says, ‘They’re all under our roof right now. The whole family’s under our roof right now. We have them all. That is a fleeting thing and not an infinite resource.’”
“[My advice to other dads is to] embrace the chaos of it all because it does get to you. And it’s OK to be like, ‘OK, f**k, I am dying here.’ Because that’s gonna happen every other day. If you can think about what you would give in 30 or 40 years to come back and enjoy this one moment, [then it’s worth it].”
