WASHINGTON, DC: The White House came out swinging on December 8, brushing aside a swirling media report suggesting that President Donald Trump was preparing to oust Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The chatter gained traction quickly, but the administration insisted the story had no basis in reality.

White House denies report Trump plans to fire Kristi Noem

The White House is pushing back hard against a report from MS Now that claimed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was on “very thin ice” with President Donald Trump.

Among other measures, the law directs law enforcement authorities to detain and deport immigrants who are accused but not yet convicted of specific crimes, if they are in the country illegally. According to the outlet, unnamed officials alleged Trump was considering firing Noem as early as January, with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller supposedly leading the internal push for her removal. But White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson shut the rumors down in a sharply worded statement.

“Everything about this is total Fake News. Secretary Noem is doing a great job implementing the president’s agenda and making America safe again. MS Now continues to beclown themselves by inventing narratives that simply are not true,” Jackson said.

The Department of Homeland Security echoed the denial. Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary, told Fox News Digital, “I can’t speak for the president, but I’ve seen more credible reporting on Big Foot.”

Speculation grows as Kristi Noem’s immigration response questioned

The MS Now report alleged that some officials inside the White House had grown frustrated with the pace of Noem’s efforts to expand detention facilities, suggesting that several governors were unhappy with federal disaster responses in their states.

The article even claimed that outgoing Virginia Gov Glenn Youngkin was emerging as a top contender to replace Noem, a claim the administration did not address directly but dismissed through its broader rejection of the report’s accuracy. The timing of the story raised eyebrows, coming just days after Noem publicly backed Trump’s push for a sweeping new round of international travel bans.

“I won’t be specific on the number, but it’s over 30,” Noem told Fox News last week. “I just met with the president. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”

Kristi Noem intensifies hardline immigration stance

Noem has been one of the administration’s most outspoken voices on immigration, regularly using fiery language to frame the issue as a national security emergency.

“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom, not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS,” she said during the same Fox News interview. “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”

Her increasingly aggressive messaging has made her a lightning rod on both sides of the aisle and a key figure in Trump’s immigration strategy heading into 2026.
