WASHINGTON, DC: Following President Donald Trump's undergoing of an MRI scan recently, the White House has admitted that it was part of the medical evaluation and cited his extreme aging as the reason for the additional screening.
The health update came after an increased public scrutiny about his health, but the officials said that the results showed no issues.
White House reveals why Donald Trump had an MRI
On Monday, December 1, the White House finally revealed that the president had a “preventative” MRI last month to look at his heart and abdomen.
The recent results were part of Trump’s October visit to Walter Reed Military Medical Center, whose reason was not revealed amid mounting questions about his health.
“As part of President Donald J Trump’s comprehensive executive physical, advanced imaging was performed because men in his age group benefit from a thorough evaluation of cardiovascular and abdominal health,” the memo read.
“The purpose of this imaging is preventative: to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term vitals and function,” it continued.
The memo said that Trump’s cardiovascular imaging was “perfectly normal,” there was “no evidence of arterial narrowing impairing blood flow or abnormalities in the heart or major vessels,” and his cardiovascular system shows “excellent health.”
The memo stated that all the president’s major organs appear “very healthy” and “well-perfused.”
“This level of detailed assessment is standard for an executive physical at President Trump’s age and confirms that he remains in excellent overall health,” the memo concluded.
White House faces questions over Trump's unusual MRI
In mid-October, Trump underwent an MRI during a physical, just six months after his annual physical in April.
The White House revealed he had advanced imaging during what it called a “follow-up evaluation,” but it was the president who later told reporters he had an MRI and asserted that it was excellent.
When first asked about the MRI in early November, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that she needed to confirm the reason for it. Over a week later, Trump claimed he had no idea why he had needed the MRI.
After ongoing questions, Leavitt read the memo during the White House press briefing on Monday in response to a question. She said it was being released in an “effort of transparency.”
Speculations over Donald Trump's health
Being the oldest person ever to be elected as president, Trump has faced a series of questions about his health since returning to office.
In July, the White House revealed Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after pictures captured him with massively swollen ankles, a common condition in older people where the leg veins fail to pump blood to the heart.
At the time, the White House insisted there had been no changes to the president’s routine, and he was not taking any new medication to treat it.
But the president was seen with a recurring bruise on the top of his right hand, which he had attempted to cover with a glob of cover-up, but other times he has been seen with the deep purple bruise. But the White House insisted it is the result of constant handshaking while taking aspirin as part of his routine.
