WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump accused President Joe Biden's immigration and border policies of being responsible for the shooting of two NYPD police officers in New York City by a migrant, according to Newsweek.

Two NYC police officers were shot on Monday, June 3, while chasing a 19-year-old man who was allegedly riding a motorbike the wrong way down a street in Queens.

Suspect Bernardo Castro Mata is reportedly an illegal migrant from Venezuela who came to the US through Eagle Pass, Texas, in July 2023, as per the New York Post.

Officer Richard Yarusso, 26, survived the shooting as he was wearing a bulletproof jacket, but another officer, Christopher Abreu, 26, was shot in the leg.

Mata, who was on the NYPD radar over "snatch and grab" robberies in Queens, was also shot.

Donald Trump blames Joe Biden for attack on NYPD cops

"Biden Migrant Crime is out of control and is ravaging America! Last night, two brave NYPD officers doing their job were shot by a Monster Illegal Immigrant who came here illegally from Venezuela last year and was living in a tax-payer-funded migrant shelter," the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform on June 3.

"Crooked Joe Biden has trafficked in the worst people from around the world, many with heinous criminal records, and unleashed them into our communities," Trump added.

Furthermore, the presumptive Republican nominee also criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for focusing on the hush money trial.

Trump argued Bragg, a Democrat who brought the criminal case against him, "should focus on keeping the streets of New York safe."

His Truth Social post concluded by emphasizing the necessity of finishing the border wall, securing the border, and safeguarding the streets.

Along with abortion, the border crisis took the central stage in the 2024 presidential election.

However, Trump had a role in the failure of the Biden-endorsed border security bill to resolve the crisis at the southern border. Earlier this year, the former president pressured the GOP Senators to thwart the $118 billion bill to prevent a legislative victory for his Democratic opponent ahead of the crucial presidential election.

Internet blasts Trump for accusing Biden

Trump faced brutal criticism from netizens as he blamed Biden's immigration policies for the attack on the cops. They pointed out the former president was responsible for the current border crisis.

One user wrote, "So your wall is a total fail. Got it." Another remarked, "You should not be contributing to raise national crime to compensate for it Donald."

"Well now. Trump can blame himself for the border crisis at this point. Trump told his MAGA friends in Congress to vote AGAINST the BIPARTISAN BORDER BILL. Thanks Trump," a third user added.

A fourth response read, "No it isn't! LIAR! If the Right is so concerned about the border they would have passed the bipartisan bill. So stow it. You're looking for a diversion, and it must be more evil than you. So you're going to demonize immigrants again. You're like a Psych 101 book predictable."

Another person argued, "Imagine how much of a LIAR you need to be to claim the migrant dip during COVID lockdown was a result of your policies and then claim you left office in 2020 before they started coming back again."

Someone else asked, "Why did you kill the border deal if it’s so bad?" An individual wrote, "The border is 1 mans fault- Donald Trump."

Another added, "You alone are responsible for the border crisis!!"
