A$AP Rocky says shooting at LA home took away 'a lot of peace and happiness'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A$AP Rocky has now spoken about the March shooting at his and Rihanna’s Beverly Hills, California home that rocked their lives. The rapper claimed that the incident took away his “peace and joy”.
The rapper also got candid about co-parenting his and the 38-year-old singer’s three children during the Tuesday, June 2, interview with Vibe.
A$AP Rocky feels his freedom was taken away after March shooting
“It was f****d up ... somebody attempted at [harming] me and my family,” the record producer, whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers, shared.
He also revealed that the frightful incident in which the accused Ivanna Lisette Ortiz used an AR-15-style rifle “took away a lot of peace and happiness of being able to just be free. I don’t want to be robbed of my peace and joy.”
Ortiz was eventually arrested after the incident. She was then pressed with several charges, including attempted murder.
The 35-year-old alleged shooter, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges. She’s currently behind bars and could face life imprisonment if convicted.
A$AP Rocky loves to be 'emotionally present' for his children
Meanwhile, during the Vibe interview, Rocky, who shares sons RZA and Riot Rose, and daughter Rocki Irish with the Fenty Beauty founder, shed light on his family life.
For him, fatherhood means “being emotionally present, emotionally available, receptive, still endearing, but not only that, loving. That’s easy. That’s me all day. That’s just me.”
He also talked about the experience of becoming a parent.
“It was just so exciting because you just don’t know what to prepare for,” the model said for the first time, but also added that “the second and third time was really similar to the first experience. We were laughing while she was in labor, literally laughing and cracking jokes and s**t.”
A$AP Rocky does not want his children to become just 'nepo babies'
Elsewhere in the interview, Rocky revealed his idea of parenting in a privileged environment.
He shared, “I want to make sure that I teach my boys discipline and keep them grounded, keep them humble as much as possible. Because they could be considered nepo babies. I got to make sure they chill with their cousins, the rough cousins that’s going keep them on their toes.”
Rocky’s interview came months after a source close to Rihanna revealed that the March shooting was “terrifying” for her.
“Even with a great security team in place, it’s scary to realize that something like this can still happen. Rihanna heard the shots, but was initially confused about what happened. She doesn’t understand why someone would target her family,” they added.
