Amber Heard ‘never liked' Los Angeles and feels safer in Spain with her acting projects, says source

MADRID, SPAIN: Amber Heard, the 'Lost Kingdom' actress and the ex-wife of Johnny Depp has found a safe haven in Spain, far from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

Heard revealed that she has always been uncomfortable with the vibe of Los Angeles and prefers the welcoming atmosphere of Madrid, Spain with a continued passion for acting. 

Amber Heard's reason to stay away from Hollywood 

Heard always had reservations about Los Angeles and has consciously decided to raise her three-year-old daughter, Oonagh, who was born via surrogate in April 2021 away from the Hollywood spotlight.

“Amber doesn’t want to raise a child in Hollywood,” a source told US Weekly and added Heard has “never liked the energy” of Los Angeles.

“She [thinks] Madrid is a more welcoming place for her. She feels safe and secure, and she’s surrounded by better people where she is," the source further stated to the publication.

Heard moved to Spain shortly after her high-profile legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, ended in a verdict in Depp's favor in June 2022. 

In a TikTok video circulated at the time she was heard saying, "I love Spain so much" while answering questions from local reporters.

She said, "Yes, I hope so. Yes, I love living here," when asked about her plans if she would continue to live in Spain. "I move on. That's life," she said about her upcoming projects.

Heard’s passion for acting remains undiminished despite her move to Spain. “Amber’s not giving up acting,” the source said.

She continues to be involved in various professional engagements, including modeling and acting.

Heard made her presence felt at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy last June, where she was promoting her film 'In the Fire'.

She also had a brief role in 'Aquaman 2', which was released in December 2023.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's legal battle 

Heard, who was married to Depp from 2015 to 2017 found themselves in a legal battle when Depp sued Heard for defamation over an op-ed she wrote in Washington Post in 2019, referring to herself as a survivor of domestic abuse.

The legal battle between Heard and Depp was a high-profile affair, with the jury siding with Depp in June 2022, awarding him $15 million in damages. Heard appealed the decision, but the exes settled the case in December 2022.

“After a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia,” Heard wrote in a long Instagram post in December 2022.

“It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed," she wrote further.

“The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward," Heard added.

She claimed that she had “lost faith in the American legal system,” arguing that her “unprotected testimony served as entertainment and social media fodder.”
