Anna Delvey blasts 'DWTS' for 'exploiting' her for attention

After her short stint on 'Dancing With the Stars', 33-year-old Anna Delvey spoke out about the criticism she faced regarding her casting and the unusual circumstances surrounding her exit from the competition.

In an interview with NBC News, released on Friday, September 28, Delvey stated, "I feel that the show so obviously used me to drive up the ratings, that they never had any plans to give me any chance to grow and only cared about exploiting me for attention."

She also described the popular dance series as "predatory," stating, "It was predatory of them to try [to] make me feel inadequate and stupid all while I did get progressively better yet they chose to disregard that."

When ABC announced that Delvey would be competing in the 33rd season of the competition, several viewers urged the network to reconsider its decision, per Page Six.

Delvey claimed that she recognized "how easily people will judge you without getting to know you or the true facts of your story" due to the criticism surrounding her casting.

Delvey and Sosa performed a quickstep routine to KT Tunstall's 2024 hit song 'Suddenly I See' before their elimination on Tuesday night.

Upon losing the competition, she told NBC, "It felt like I was never really given a fair chance by the viewers or some of the judges’ given their nonsensical scoring. It’s supposed to be a dance competition and not a popularity contest."

Delvey further stated, "I’m trying to start a new chapter moving past mistakes I made and regret when I was much younger."

"Not sure when people will finally afford me that second chance and stop persecuting me so I have the opportunity to move on with my life," she added.

Anna Delvey disappointed with her early elimination from 'DWTS'

Anna Delvey intended to use her time on 'Dancing With the Stars' as a chance to showcase her true self to the public.

While speaking on an episode of fellow 'DWTS' contestant Tori Spelling’s podcast, 'Misspelling', Delvey said, "It just felt a bit upsetting to me. It felt like a waste of time for me to do all this for them to just discard me so easily."

"I know the show was very excited to have me on, but the large part of the audience is not the people who would usually be excited about me in general," she added, per Us Weekly.

She stated, "It felt like they put so much effort in trying to get me on the show and make me feel comfortable, just to eliminate me this early," before adding, "I never had high expectations for [the] show for myself."

Delvey's unexpected reply to co-host Julianne Hough's question about what she would remember from the experience sparked even more outrage. Her straightforward response was, "Nothing," followed by laughter.

She further claimed on 'Good Morning America' that "getting eliminated" from 'DWTS' was her favorite aspect of the contest.

Internet slams Anna Delvey’s claims of exploitation on 'DWTS'

Despite Anna Delvey's assertion that the ABC dancing contest "exploited" her for "attention," internet users disagreed and intensified their criticism of the infamous convicted con artist.

One X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "It's like she’s mad they used her for clout but isn’t that kinda what she did too?"

A second user echoed a similar sentiment and said, "I still don't understand why they even had her on the show. Glamourizing a literal criminal? Come on"

"LOL she was the one who decided to be on the show. She had a choice and she made it. No sympathy. She’s delusional," remarked a user.

Another added, "So now she gets how it feels to be lied to and tricked for financial gain?"

"Such a bad attitude. She should be thankful. This was a great opportunity for her to reinvent herself," said a user.

Another noted, "Girl… they gave you the opportunity to 'redeem' yourself and you wasted it with your horrible personality"

"Oh how the turns have tabled. Not to mention, she behaved like, and basically said, she doesn’t want to be there. She just couldn’t cash in on this as much as she thought she could, and now she wants sympathy," commented a user. [sic]
