LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jo Koy targeted Hollywood in his initial stand-up routine following his internet-lambasted stint as the host of the 81st Golden Globes.

The comedian has been the subject of online trolling and ridicule due to his poorly received jokes about Taylor Swift and Barbie at the prestigious awards night.

The 53-year-old stand-up comedian has faced further backlash after referring to the A-list audience as "marshmallows" in his first stand-up show since his ill-received opening monologue at the awards ceremony.

What did Jo Koy say?

On Friday, January 12, Koy performed at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri. After stepping onto the stage, he was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation from the crowd, as reported by Variety.

"Holy s**t, right," he remarked, referring to the crowd’s response. "This big hug that you gave me is all I need, swear to god. F**king whirlwind, goddamn," he added.

"Lot a marshmallows, man," he said of the Awards night audience and added, "They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft.

"I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but goddamn, can we f**king laugh at ourselves?" he said.

As reported by Variety, Koy's comments were greeted with applause from the St. Louis audience, with one attendee even exclaiming, "F**k 'em!"

"I got a feeling none of you motherf***ers watched it, and I’m kinda happy," Koy added.

He further said, "Oh my God. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to … speak your mind."

Throughout his performance, Koy refrained from explicitly mentioning the Golden Globes. However, he made several indirect references to the awards show and the ensuing controversy surrounding his hosting stint.

"The weather is better in Hollywood, but I’m happy to be in this blizzard. When it rains, it pours," he joked.

The internet criticizes Jo Koy for his comments about "marshmallow" celebrities at the Golden Globes.

A user on X, (formally Twitter) wrote, "They weren’t offended lol they weren’t entertained. Bad jokes are bad jokes."

Another user added, "He has the worst joke delivery of any comic I’ve seen. Isn’t that like 90% of stand up?"

"You know you're unfunny when both the left and the right unites to say to a comedian, "naw, you just weren't funny bro," commented another.

One person wrote, "The jokes were not funny and I still don’t know who this guy is."

"You have to know your audience and read the room. That's part of the job. Now that everyone is laughing at him, I guess he should take his own advice now," stated another.

"Someone please tell him it’s not that he was “too edgy” it’s that he was just literally not funny," mentioned another.

"We would laugh if the jokes were actually funny. He could not land a joke to save his life," penned another.
