Chris Hemsworth recalls awkward moment with Billie Eilish as he reveals why regrets taking selfie

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Chris Hemsworth admitted that he regrets taking a selfie with Billie Eilish at the 2024 Academy Awards.
The 41-year-old actor made the confession while appearing on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' on March 26.

Chris Hemsworth’s Oscars selfie regret
During Stephen Colbert’s signature "Questionert" segment, Chris Hemsworth revealed that the one celebrity selfie he wishes he had not taken was with the 'Happier Than Ever' singer.
"I got a photo with Billie Eilish at the Oscars and I remember thinking 'Ah, don't do it, don't do it,'" he recalled of the moment along with his wife Elsa Pataky.
Chris Hemsworth details moment of hesitation turned into a regret
Despite his initial reluctance, Hemsworth went ahead with the picture, largely for his children.
"I was like 'No, my kids are going to love this,'" he explained.
However, as soon as the photo was taken, he felt an immediate shift in his dynamic with Eilish.
"I went from work colleague to now like a fan," he admitted, according to People.

"We will never be friends, never be best friends," Hemsworth joked, implying that the selfie changed the way their relationship would be perceived.
Industry colleagues, not friends
Stephen Colbert inquired if the 'Furiosa' star had ever collaborated with Eilish, to which Hemsworth responded that they had not worked together but were "same industry-kind of colleague, bumping shoulders."
Colbert playfully related to the sentiment, quipping that he, too, could be considered a colleague of esteemed industry figures.
"Sure, me and Anthony Hopkins, work colleagues," he joked, earning laughs from the audience.
Chris Hemsworth's habit of breaking celebrity event protocol
Chris Hemsworth’s Oscars selfie regret is not the first time he has talked about snapping photos with fellow celebrities.
In a separate 2024 interview with E! News, he admitted to breaking protocol at the prestigious Met Gala.
The actor shared that he took "heaps of selfies” during fashion’s biggest night, despite the event’s strict no-phone policy.
"Selfies everywhere. A lot of selfies in my phone. Like, 'When did I take that? Let’s delete that one,'" he joked.
"My wife and I, we live in Australia," Chris told E! News.

"So any sort of big awards show, we haven't become jaded because it's still new and exciting. And this in particular, eclectic group of people, different than the normal crowd of, you know, film award shows we've been doing...sports people, musicians, artists, so we had a really fun night," he added.
While the Met Gala strictly prohibits posting images from inside the event, Hemsworth is not alone in breaking the rule, as many other celebrities have also been caught taking and sharing forbidden snaps from the evening.
