ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A fresh data breakdown on CNN is putting numbers behind the increasingly public rift between President Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson and the gap is not even close.

During a Friday morning, April 10, segment, CNN analyst Harry Enten pointed to polling that shows Trump maintaining overwhelming dominance among Republican voters, even as Carlson’s standing has sharply declined.

Tucker Carlson's sharp drop among Republicans

Walking viewers through the numbers, Enten described Carlson’s trajectory as a steep fall from grace within the GOP base.

Once enjoying strong support, Carlson’s favorability has taken a dramatic hit over time.

"Let’s start off with Tucker Carlson, who has been an absolute free-fall with Republicans. Back in March of 2024, when he and Donald Trump were very close friends, he was at plus 54 points," he said.

"Look at where he is today, at only plus seven points among Republicans, and that includes GOP-leaning independents. I mean, that is a drop of what, 47 percentage points. My goodness gracious," Enten added.

He continued with a blunt assessment of what happens when anyone in Republican politics goes head-to-head with Trump, saying, “When you go up against Donald Trump, and you want to appeal to the Republican base, to quote the movie 'Good Burger', you go in the grinder. And that is exactly what has happened to Tucker Carlson, who has absolutely collapsed among Republicans."

Donald Trump's commanding lead

The contrast becomes even clearer when both figures are placed side-by-side.

According to the same polling data, Republican voters overwhelmingly favor Trump when forced to choose.

“Yeah, they choose Donald Trump basically every single time. Net favorables are among Republicans. Look at where Donald Trump is, at plus 61 points,” Enten explained.

He emphasized the scale of the gap, saying, “Again, he is crushing, crushing Tucker Carlson! What is this? This is a 54-point advantage for Donald Trump over Tucker Carlson when it comes to who is more popular among Republican voters.”

Enten also noted that Trump’s standing is often even higher in other surveys, particularly among core supporters.

“This isn’t even just talking about the MAGA base, where Donald Trump is running an approval rating somewhere between 97 and a hundred percent,” he said.

Beyond the numbers, Enten suggested the implications are significant for any future political ambitions Carlson might have.

He argued that Carlson is not only struggling within Republican circles but also lacks broader national appeal.

The polling comes amid an escalating war of words between the two figures.

Trump recently lashed out at Carlson and other right-wing commentators in a lengthy social media post, accusing them of undermining his agenda and dismissing them as irrelevant voices seeking attention.
