'Snow White' returns to big screen 90 years since the original

Directed by Marc Webb, famed for his work on 'The Amazing Spider-Man' series, this new rendition promises a fresh take on the classic tale.

The film will feature a musical score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the talented duo behind 'The Greatest Showman' and 'Dear Evan Hansen.'

Originally slated for a March 22, 2024 release, the film’s debut was delayed by a year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, adding a chapter of its own to the movie’s journey.

The anticipation has been building ever since stars Zegler and Gal Gadot first teased the project at D23 two years ago, offering a glimpse of the magic to come.

The magic of Snow White is poised to return to the big screen nearly 90 years after the original 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' made its groundbreaking debut in 1937, laying the foundation for Disney's legacy.

The new film promises to offer a fresh perspective on the beloved tale, following in the footsteps of previous adaptations like Lily Collins’ 'Mirror, Mirror' and Kristen Stewart’s 'Snow White and the Huntsman.'

This upcoming release is just one of several Disney live-action films set to enchant audiences in the coming months.

Kicking off the lineup is 'Mufasa: The Lion King,' hitting theaters on December 20.

Disney’s live-action remake strategy has proven immensely successful, with earlier hits like 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Aladdin' each grossing over $1 billion.

Although the most recent remake, 'The Little Mermaid,' earned $569.6 million, Disney’s magic formula for bringing animated classics to life continues to captivate audiences around the globe.

'Snow White' also features music from the Oscar-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on 'La La Land' and 'The Greatest Showman.'

Gal Gadot's 'delicious and delightful' Evil Queen role

Talking to Digital Spy, Gal Gadot revealed that landing her role as the Evil Queen in the live-action 'Snow White' wasn’t a given.

Despite her success in films like 'Fast & Furious' and 'Red Notice,' Gadot reportedly had to audition and prove her singing ability for the musical part of the role, alongside Zegler.

Speaking to GQ in a video, she said, "It was the first time I had to kind of audition for a project in a while. They needed to make sure I can sing because this is a musical. So, for a month, I was working on the song, and then I auditioned, and we filmed the song, and I got the part, and it was very exciting."

Gadot also described the audition process for her role as a "delightful" challenge, highlighting how it differed from her previous projects.

She added: "It was so much to shoot because it's so different from anything I've ever done. It's so delicious and delightful, and I could really go big and theatrical."
