PARK CITY, UTAH: The children of late beloved actor Christopher Reeve revealed a surprising detail about their father's recent posthumous CGI cameo in the DC tentpole film 'The Flash' at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, as reported by Variety.

Reeve became an overnight Hollywood sensation and pop culture icon for his fan-revered portrayal of Superman in the 1978 original film and subsequent sequels. However, his Emmy-nominated performance in the 1993 drama 'Remains of the Day' was a personal point of pride that showed his versatility beyond the superhero role.

Reeve, who passed away in 2004, remains iconic for his celebrated depiction of Superman in the original 1978 film and its three sequels. Last year, Warner Bros controversially utilized CGI effects to digitally recreate the late actor’s likeness for a surprise Superman cameo in their DC film 'The Flash'.

His children - Will, Matthew, and Alexandra Reeve - recently appeared at Sundance to discuss 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,' a new documentary premiering at the festival that chronicles their father’s legendary career.

When asked about the 'Flash' cameo, the siblings confirmed they did not watch the film nor have any involvement with the controversial scene.

"We not only have his films to look at but a collection of home movies to dig up and go through and interviews on YouTube of him to pull up," said Matthew on preserving his father’s legacy. "Seeing things I hadn’t seen before didn’t change my perception of him but enhanced it."

Reeve siblings hope Sundance documentary provides fuller insight into father’s career

The Reeve siblings hope the new Sundance documentary provides fuller insight into their father’s incredible career, which extended far beyond his signature Superman role.

"It is a gift. We’re so lucky," said Matthew on the film. "To see a life well lived on screen and in its full complexity. We wanted people to see the highs and lows, the public facade and what’s happening at home."

The documentary tracks Reeve’s rise from Julliard-trained theater actor to overnight Hollywood celebrity upon winning the coveted Superman role, as well as his resilience regaining mobility and becoming an influential activist for spinal cord research after a devastating 1995 horseback riding accident left him paralyzed.

Alexandra called the film "a beautiful gift" to witness her father’s story told comprehensively. "It’s rare to see your parent’s life told in its totality."

Internet reacts to revelation that Christopher Reeve's children never saw 'The Flash' CGI cameo

The revelation that Reeve's children have not watched their father's CGI cameo in 'The Flash' stirred a myriad of reactions across the Internet.

One X user passionately praised Reeve's acting prowess, stating, "He was such a tremendous actor. 'Somewhere in Time' is another great film of his."

This sentiment was echoed by another user who shared a personal connection, saying, "I showed my kids the first Superman that arrived on Prime. They loved it. It brought back how special Christopher Reeves was. He had an incredible gift that we get to enjoy through all his movies."

A more understanding perspective emerged from a third user who acknowledged the family's choice, stating, "I mean, that’s fair, but it’s definitely my go-to as he is forever my Superman."

Meanwhile, a user weighed in on the controversial CGI choice in 'The Flash,' suggesting, "WB should have used alternate/unused footage of Christopher Reeve as Superman from 'Superman' or 'Superman II' in 'The Flash' movie."

One user expressed discontent with Warner Bros, bluntly stating, "Warner Bros. needs to let this man rest in peace."

In contrast, another user recognized Reeve's versatility but emphasized his iconic status, saying, "He was magnificent in 'Remains of the Day,' but like it or not, he is best known and best loved for Superman, and I'm not surprised they didn't watch 'The Flash'—neither did most people."
