LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been rocked by recent reports that rising star Jonathan Majors has been fired from his pivotal role as iconic villain Kang the Conqueror amid scandal.

With the future of the fearsome character suddenly thrown into uncertainty, new rumors have exploded online that John David Washington is being eyed as Majors’ high-profile replacement, as reported by Complex.

The news has sparked excited reactions across social media, with many fans backing the talented 'Tenet' actor to take on the formidable role. As Majors faces an uphill battle reputationally, John appears primed to step in and conquer as Kang – a possibility the Internet seems eager to embrace.

Insider claims John David Washington is being eyed for Kang's role

According to insider Daniel Richtman, John is reportedly in consideration for the pivotal role of Kang across future Marvel films. Kang was set to be the next big bad in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with appearances in projects like 2026's 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty' and 2027's 'Avengers: Secret Wars.'

Majors was set to portray the iconic comic book villain Kang across several upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects. However, the actor was fired from the role in December 2023 after being convicted on assault charges.

The sudden casting shake-up has led to changes across Marvel's production slate. With Majors' exit, the planned 2026 film 'Avengers: The Kang Dynasty' is reportedly now being referred to internally as simply 'Avengers 5'. Majors has also been pulled from several other film projects, including the Otis Redding biopic 'Otis and Zelma'.

The son of Oscar-winner Denzel Washington, John has impressed fans and critics alike with breakthrough performances in hit films like 'BlacKkKlansman' and 'Tenet.' His charismatic yet intense presence on-screen has marked him as a leading man to watch.

With Kang destined to be the next major overarching villain in the MCU following Thanos, the role requires an actor with strong leading man credentials. As such, 39-year-old John brings both acting chops and action movie experience that could ably fill Majors' shoes against Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
