Internet disagrees as Alan Dershowitz claims Trump would be killed in prison sans Secret Service protection
WASHINGTON, DC: Defense attorney Alan Dershowitz said former President Donald Trump would get killed in prison if he did not have Secret Service protections.
The law professor made the shocking prediction in a recent interview with Newsmax in light of a new bill introduced by Democrat congressman Bennie Thompson, aimed at the ex-president, that would strip Secret Service benefits to convicted felons, according to Raw Story.
Trump is the first US president, serving or former, to go to trial for a criminal case. The hush money trial against Trump started on April 15 in the case brought forward by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Brag.
Alan Dershowitz on potential outcome of Trump losing Secret Service protections
During the interview, the host claimed Trump would not have Secret Service protection if imprisoned.
"Well, that's ridiculous," Dershowitz replied. "That means that they want him killed, because he's obviously a target. We live in an age where everybody is in danger."
"Look, Bobby Kennedy ought to be getting Secret Service protection, but certainly Donald Trump needs to get Secret Service protection," he added, referring to independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr's request for the same.
Further into the interview, Dershowitz dismissed the possibility of the Republican presumptive nominee being jailed for the criminal charges.
"The judge is going to bluff and fine and threaten, but he's not going to throw Donald Trump in jail. That would be a guaranteed victory," the law professor claimed. "It would even get people like me, perhaps, to vote for him if he was thrown in jail on an unconstitutional charge. So I don't think it's going to happen."
Trump is charged with 34 counts for falsifying his business record for covering up a $130 000 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the final days of his 2016 presidential campaign to silence her about their alleged affair.
The trial has completed his jury selection and will move toward opening arguments from defense and prosecution on Monday, April 22.
Besides the hush money case, the former president faces three other indictments for attempting to overturn the 2020 election results and the mishandling of classified materials.
Social media reactions
Responding to Dershowitz's claims, netizens said Trump would not be murdered in the event of him going behind bars.
One user wrote, "IF he goes to jail, he will not be in with the general population. Stop with wild imaginings." Another remarked, "So send him to Langley or Leavenworth and keep him by himself. He'll be fine."

A third user claimed, "Don’t be silly. The worst that would ever happen is he would have to wear an ankle monitor while he goes on with his extravagant lifestyle." Meanwhile, a fourth response read, "He will be just fine in prison. He’s not the first D lister to go to prison."
"Nobody wants that, he would be protected in every way! Doubt, even if convicted, he'll go to prison," another person said.

Someone else argued, "That's baloney. He'd have his SS detail 24/7, a private cell, food brought in to him from a vetted source, etc." Another remark read, "Seriously doubt that. If imprisoned, he’ll probably go to a “Club Fed” like Danbury State."
"Ridiculous. They would have him by himself with secret service," an individual chimed in.
