Hugh Grant reveals he 'poisoned' his wife Anna Eberstein and children twice in BBQ disasters
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hugh Grant, the quintessential British star's recent revelations in an interview with British Vogue have left fans in stitches and a little wary of accepting dinner invitations to his house.
From poisoning his children twice to naming his daughter 'Danger', Grant’s family life is every bit as entertaining as his on-screen antics.
Hugh Grant reveals BBQ disasters and kitchen nightmares
In a candid chat with his 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' co-star, Renée Zellweger, Grant admitted that his culinary journey has been nothing short of a disaster.
“I’ve poisoned my family twice, given them worms. Undercooked chicken. Twice. It was dark, you see,” Grant confessed.
“It was on the barbecue and I stuck my Heston Blumenthal prod into it. I couldn’t quite read it. So I served it out – worms all round. And the children now beg me not to cook.”
Clearly, the man who has charmed audiences for decades might be better off sticking to takeout.
Grant has three children, John Mungo, Lulu Danger, and Blue from his marriage to Anna Eberstein on 2018.
Hugh Grant's date with wife Anna Eberstein and one near-death experience
In the Vogue interview, Grant also opened up about his relationship with his wife Eberstein.
Their first date was refreshingly low-key: “It was in a local wine bar,” he shared. No grand gestures, just the simple charm of wine and conversation.
But not all of Grant's dining experiences have been so casual.
The actor recalled a terrifying moment at Claridge’s with Sarah Jessica Parker: “Many years ago while dining there with Sarah Jessica Parker, she told me something so riveting that I inhaled a piece of chicken and had to stumble to the loos to die alone."
He added, "Luckily, a passing doctor from Texas saw me, followed me down there, and saved my life by putting me over his shoulder and burping me like a baby.”
Grant reveals the quirky and sentimental stories behind his children's names
Grant, a father of five, has a flair for unique and amusing names.
During an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live
,' he revealed the story behind his youngest daughter’s name.
“We thought it might be nice for her when she was older if she could say in bars that her middle name is Danger. So, her name is Lulu Danger Grant. Austin Powers, you know?”
Another memorable naming moment came when Grant's eldest son suggested a name for his younger sister.
“We asked her elder brother when she was on the way, ‘There’s a new baby coming along, what shall we call her?’ And he said ‘Kevin,’ because that was his favourite Minion,” Grant explained.
“And we did think about calling her Kevin, but then we said, ‘You’d better think of something else,’ and he said ‘Blue,’ because that was his favourite colour.”
While Grant's knack for quirky names is undeniable, his sentimental side also shines through. His eldest child, Tabitha, bears the middle name Xiao Xi, meaning “happy surprise,” chosen by her mother Tinglan Hong.
Despite his fame, Grant keeps his personal life relatively private. Yet, glimpses of his fatherhood reveal a man transformed.
His ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley once remarked, “He’s an enchanting dad. Really, really sweet. Having these kids has transformed him from a very miserable person into a fairly miserable person. It’s improved him. He’s gone up the scale.”
Grant himself summed it up best: “I’m just lucky. I’ve got a great wife. I love her. We’ve got three kids together, we live together.”
