Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds at the 'top of wish list’ to host Oscars 2025 after superhit summer
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are pegged as the top choices to host the upcoming Academy Awards in 2025.
Following the astronomical success of their summer movie ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, the two stars are not only “at the top of the Oscars’ wish list,” but may even get a seven-figure payday if they agree to the proposition.
Recently, a source close to Reynolds and Jackman told In Touch that the organizers for the Academy Awards are ready to shell out a fortune to bring them on board.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are at the top of Oscars wish list
The source shared with the outlet, “Hugh and Ryan – as a team – are at the top of the Oscars’ wish list now that they’ve sealed their status as the two biggest movie stars of the year.”
After essaying the iconic duo of Deadpool and Wolverine in the Marvel flick, Reynolds and Jackman have endeared themselves immensely to the fans.
Apart from being the top-billed A-listers themselves, their latest flick is also set to enter the list of top 20 highest-grossing movies of all time. Thus, according to the source, Reynolds and Jackman - if they agree to the hosting duty - may demand high compensation.
“They haven’t said no yet, but unlike Jimmy Kimmel, who personally took only a nominal, scale fee for hosting the show, Hugh and Ryan are major movie stars and will need to be paid for lending their star power to the show,” shared the source.
The insider continued, “The Academy has other, cheaper options, but Hugh and Ryan hosting would be global news and, the reality is, these guys don’t do anything for free.”
However, if they ultimately agree to host the biggest night of Hollywood, it will add a justified amount of glitz to the already star-studded event.
“If they eventually agree to do it, it’s going to come with a seven-figure payday!,” tipped the insider.
Ryan Reynolds may turn Oscar gig into an advertising bonanza
The same source also reflected on another possibility if the duo ultimately took up the job. They claimed that Ryan Reynolds’ team is eager to use the Oscar platform to advertise the ‘Free Guy’ actor’s media house.
“What’s tantalizing to team Ryan is turning the Oscars into a multi-media advertising bonanza the same way he has done with the Deadpool franchise,” explained the source.
They further suggested that if they take up the stage, the ‘Logan’ star and Reynolds would also use the platform to promote their 2025-bound films - ‘The Death of Robin Hood’ and ‘Animal Friends’ respectively.
Moreover, the source added about the duo, “Like Hugh, Ryan has serious singing and dancing chops and isn’t afraid to make a fool of himself for the sake of getting a laugh.”
Referring to Jackman’s previous gig of hosting the Oscars in 2009, the insider added, “Of course, Hugh has all the experience he needs from his very well-received job hosting the show before," but they noted that doing it with his costar this time would make it “bigger, wackier and edgier than his first time around.”
Jackman took up the hosting gig at the Academy Awards in 2009 amid much fanfare.
