LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In an interview with Variety at the 2024 Emmy Awards, Seth Meyers commended Jo Koy's performance as the host of the 2024 Golden Globes, acknowledging the challenges he must have faced with the late notice and lack of a dedicated writing team.

The 'Late Night' host, 50, emphasized the comedian's remarkable solo career and suggested that despite the odds, Koy, who faced immense criticism after the January 7 event, did a commendable job considering the circumstances.

Seth Meyers says Jo Koy did a 'great job' at hosting the 2024 Golden Globes

During the interview, Meyers noted, "I think he was in a tough situation. When you find out you're doing something late, when you're not someone who has staff writers like I do."

"Jo, who has this incredible career, he's done it all on his own. That's a real credit to Jo, but when you do shows like these, it helps to have a staff you know well and to trust well, so all things considered, I think he did a great job considering the deck was stacked against him," added the late-night talk show host.

Notably, Koy had only 10 days to prepare for the event, and apparently, the writers weren't selected until eight days before the show. He also noted that the monologue was written just a day before the 2024 Golden Globes.

As reported by OK Magazine, during a stand-up gig in St Louis, Koy humorously addressed the criticism he received over hosting the 2024 Golden Globes, highlighting the importance of being able to freely express oneself in the country.

He joked, "Lot a marshmallows, man. They’re delicious but godd***, they’re soft. I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but godd***, can we f****** laugh at ourselves?"

Koy continued, "I got a feeling none of you motherf***** watched it, and I’m kinda happy. Oh my god. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to…speak your mind."

Addressing a particular joke about Taylor Swift that garnered attention, Koy clarified in a January 11 interview with the Los Angeles Times that the intention was not to make fun of the pop star but rather to poke fun at the NFL

Notably, in the joke, the comedian said, "The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift," as the cameras face the 'Blank Space' singer.

He clarified his stance, saying, "I didn’t understand the Taylor [Swift] tiff. Mind you, that one was just getting rewritten 50 million times, never ran it through, all the way up until we had to walk out. It’s just weird, where do you place it, and and we kept hammering it and cutting it down."

"But the whole intention of that joke was to make fun of the NFL. It’s like, the cool thing about the [Golden] Globes is we don’t need to do cutaways for ratings," added Koy.

Gushing on Swift, he noted, "What hurts the most is me just supporting Taylor, I support her, I love her work. I got nieces that I bought tickets for. There’s no ill intent in that joke."
