Ice Spice joins cast of Denzel Washington starrer 'High and Low' remake
Ice Spice gained widespread recognition last year with her hit single 'Munch (Feelin' U),' followed by collaborations with industry legends like Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and Pink Pantheress. Her debut studio album, 'Y2K,' is slated for release later this year.
This collaboration between Washington and Lee marks their fifth venture together, following their last collaboration in 2006's 'Inside Man.' The project is a partnership between Apple Original Films and A24, with a theatrical release planned by A24 before a worldwide launch on AppleTV+.
The production of 'High and Low' was officially announced through a post on X (formerly Twitter) from Apple Original Films, featuring Washington and Lee.
Spike Lee and Denzel Washington's history of collabs
Scripted by Lee and Alan Fox, the film is developed and produced by A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures. Todd Black of Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman of Mandalay Pictures will act as producers, while Lee will be executive producing under his 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks banner.
Lee and Washington have a rich history of collaboration, with projects such as 'Mo' Better Blues,' 'Malcolm X,' 'He Got Game,' and 'Inside Man' under their belt. Additionally, Washington has a strong partnership with Black, having worked together on 'Fences,' 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom,' and 'The Equalizer' franchise.
Kurosawa's original 1963 film, based on the novel 'King's Ransom' by Ed McBain, explores themes of downfall and redemption in the wake of a kidnapping.
