'I’m looking at these people': Joe Scarborough mocks Mitch McConnell's endorsement of Donald Trump despite racist attacks against his wife

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent segment on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' co-host Joe Scarborough and his panel took aim at Senator Mitch McConnell after the Kentucky Republican officially endorsed former President Donald Trump.

The approximately eight-minute discussion not only ridiculed McConnell but also addressed other Republican figures, including Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham.

Unveiling the paradox

Scarborough, alongside co-host Willie Geist, MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire, Mara Gay, and George Conway delved into McConnell's endorsement despite Trump's history of racially charged attacks against McConnell's wife.

Geist pointed out Trump's relentless racist remarks towards McConnell's spouse, highlighting the paradox of the endorsement.

He stated, "Donald Trump has relentlessly attacked, in a racist way, Mitch McConnell’s wife. But he says, you know what I have said for a long time that I will endorse whoever the nominee is, even if it’s the guy I blame for an attempted coup against the United States government."

Scarborough added a satirical touch to the conversation, drawing a comparison between McConnell and Ted Cruz, emphasizing the latter's resilience in the face of personal attacks.

He quipped, "If Donald Trump had ever attacked Ted Cruz’s wife, if he ever called her ugly, ever, ever struck out at her in the most personal of terms… That is Texas tough right there, man. No BS. You cross that line with Ted, you know what? You might as well have crossed the Rio Grande, my friend."



 

Lemire's witty interjection and Scarborough's irony

Jonathan Lemire added a humorous remark, alluding to Ted Cruz's controversial trip to Cancun during a winter storm. Scarborough also sarcastically labeled Lindsey Graham as a "profile in courage" for his unwavering support of Trump.

The conversation underscored the irony of politicians remaining loyal to Trump despite facing personal attacks. Scarborough pointed out the apparent prioritization of political alliances over personal integrity and respect.

He remarked, "People can insult someone’s wife or a husband, in Mitch McConnell’s case, continue racist slurs against his wife. And they’re just fine with it. I’m not even looking at Donald Trump there. Yeah, I’m looking at these people. I’m looking at my former friends."

The segment concluded with Scarborough expressing his incredulity at the willingness of some politicians to overlook personal disrespect for the sake of political gains.
