'The View' hosts bashed as they slam Tom Brady for allowing Gisele Bundchen jokes in his Netflix roast
INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA: 'The View' host Ana Navarro criticized Tom Brady and called him "lame" and "mean" for allowing jokes about his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen during his Netflix show 'The Greatest Roast Of All Time: Tom Brady'.
The former NFL star, 46, and Bundchen, 43, divorced in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage.
Despite having two children together, Brady appeared amused while comedians like Kevin Hart and Nikki Glaser mocked Bundchen, now dating jiujitsu instructor Joaquim Valente from Miami.
'The View' hosts slam Tom Brady for allowing Gisele Bundchen jokes during Netflix roast
During a recent episode of 'The View', moderator Whoopi Goldberg brought up the topic of finding humor in personal matters like this.
Nikki Glaser made a specific joke about Bundchen and her new boyfriend by saying, "How much would it suck for Tom... omg, just knowing your ex-wife's new boyfriend could beat your a** while eating hers."
On the topic, Navarro, 52, said, "If I were getting paid what he was probably getting paid - he was an executive producer - I'd laugh at all sorts of things."
"But I think the person who wasn't getting paid and ended up being part of this roast, was Gisele. And I think that's a really kind of bad, lame thing to do to your ex-wife and mother of your children, and, you know, I felt particularly bad," she added.
Sunny Hostin echoed similar sentiments by stating, "I've got to agree. I love comedy and I like to laugh, but not at people's expense. I don't know, for me that makes me uncomfortable.
"Teasing is fine, you know you play The Dozens with your friends and stuff like that, but it felt mean, and I think if you agree to executive produce your own roast and you're making money from it and you agree to it, that's one thing, but it is another thing to roast from the audience," the 55-year-old added.
Navarro then insisted that Brady should share "half" of the earnings from the live Netflix show with his ex-wife.
The event took place at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, and included an incident where Kim Kardashian was booed by the audience during her time on stage.
Alyssa Farah Griffin added, "I have a pretty high bar for... I like a roast but this bordered on mean. My mom texted me and was like, 'Are you watching this?' and I wasn't and I tuned in, the crowd booed Kim Kardashian and it felt a little verging on mean-spirited."
However, Griffin, 34, seemed to offer a defense for Brady when she mentioned, "We should say, I don't know that Tom Brady would have known there were Gisele jokes because I think it was made at his expense, but I see the point that she was the butt of a lot of the jokes...."
Navarro swiftly interjected to remind her co-host, "But Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, was the butt of some of the jokes and he got up at some point, Tom Brady, to tell the roast master to knock it off when it came to Robert Kraft."
"So he wants it to knocked off when it comes to Robert Kraft, but not to Gisele?" she asked, before adding, "I didn't like it."
Sara Haines said, "Roasts are so extreme. If you are inviting me to a roast, there better be meat involved because I don't do this thing. I would be fetal in the corner for someone else, not even myself."
"It's so uncomfortable. I want to laugh when everyone in the room is throwing their head back and laughing, but if that's at someone's expense, and Gisele came to mind a lot for me because I thought they're going through all this and to hear those jokes about you, like she's going to hear them, you can't dodge it," she pointed out.
'The View' hosts slammed for misinterpreting roast concept
'The View' hosts faced a barrage of backlash on social media and accused them of failing to understand the concept of a "roast".
One viewer said, "They call it a roast for a reason, Anything Goes."
Another added, "No one cares about your feelings in a roast. That is the point."
One viewer noted, "The purpose was made."
Another asked, "What part of Roast don’t you get??"
No one cares about your feelings in a roast. That is the point.

One comment on the YouTube video of the episode of 'The View' read, "Omg, get a sense of humor. A roast is supposed to be an event in which invited guests make jokes that can be funny, brutally honest, and even mean at times. Joy really needed to be here to discuss this topic, as she's participated throughout her career."
Another person stated, "These women have clearly never seen a Comedy Central roast. They are vicious, crude, and uncomfortable."
"What an out of touch bizarre take from these women. I guess I shouldn't be surprised lol," one individual added.
