Internet calls for 'proper' probe as National Archives releases 6,000 pages of Biden emails to House GOP
WASHINGTON, DC: In a rather significant development in the ongoing investigation into President Biden and his family's foreign business dealings, the National Archives has reportedly delivered nearly 6,000 pages of emails to the House Oversight Committee.
This follows a request made by Republicans last September about “certain Presidential and Vice Presidential records from [the] Obama Administration," marking a pivotal moment in the probe into Biden's tenure as vice president.
The letters, addressed to Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky) and obtained by Axios, were dated March 26. The correspondence pertains to a request made in August by Comer to provide unredacted emails from Biden's vice presidency, specifically those involving his son Hunter Biden and Ukraine.
National Archives releases 211 emails to House GOP
The investigation seeks to shed light on the Biden family's activities and potential conflicts of interest. Gary Stern, the general counsel for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), disclosed that 211 emails spanning 5,860 pages had been turned over as part of the inquiry into the Biden family's business dealings.
“As we have explained to your staff, we are conducting a rolling notification process to the representatives of the former and incumbent presidents,” Stern wrote, adding that the NARA is conducting a thorough review of the records and will provide the Oversight Committee with pertinent information as per their request.
However, the disclosure comes amid a backdrop of partisan tension, with Republicans arguing that the documents handed over by NARA do not suffice.
Meanwhile, a senior House Democratic aide informed Axios that while over 20,000 pages of emails related to Hunter Biden and the Biden family have been released publicly, the NARA's submission to House Republicans exceeds 75,000 pages of records.
“Please note that some of these records contain personally identifiable information (PII), including personal addresses, phone numbers, and other nonpublic information,” a letter read. “Accordingly, we ask that the Committee protect such information from public disclosure.”
The Oversight Committee's spokesperson underscored the persistence of Republicans in seeking additional documents, particularly drafts of then-vice president Biden's 2015 speech to the Ukrainian Rada, which the White House has purportedly withheld.
In an emailed statement, the spokesperson said, “Since August the White House has been withholding all drafts of then Vice President Biden’s speech delivered to the Ukrainian Rada in 2015. Chairmen Comer and Jordan have repeatedly asked the White House to hand over these drafts but the White House continues to obstruct the House’s impeachment inquiry.”
Republicans have intensified their scrutiny of the Biden family since revelations surfaced regarding Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings and subsequent felony tax fraud charges.
Despite extensive investigations and a highly publicized impeachment inquiry launched in December, House Republicans have yet to furnish conclusive evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden. However, the recent delivery of emails by the National Archives signals a renewed effort to scrutinize the Biden administration's actions.
