LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro sparked a heated debate on social media with his criticism of President Biden's Easter proclamation on Sunday, March 31.

In a tweet, Shapiro remarked, "According to the Biden White House, it is disrespectful and wrong to kill terrorists during Ramadan, but Trans Day of Visibility™ must be celebrated on Easter."

This statement ignited a flurry of reactions, with the internet divided over the appropriateness of Shapiro's comparison.

Biden's proclamation, which recognized Easter Sunday as "Transgender Day of Visibility," drew both support and criticism from various quarters. Some lauded the inclusive gesture, viewing it as a step towards recognizing and affirming transgender individuals. Others, however, questioned the timing and juxtaposition of religious and social issues.

Ben Shapiro addresses Owens' departure from The Daily Wire

In the midst of this online uproar, Shapiro found himself at the center of yet another contentious issue involving the departure of conservative commentator Candace Owens from The Daily Wire, a media platform he co-founded. Owens' exit from the organization fueled speculation, particularly regarding her stance on Israel and its role in her departure.

Shapiro addressed the speculation, asserting that Owens' departure was influenced by multiple factors beyond disagreements over Israel. He emphasized The Daily Wire's commitment to ideological boundaries while maintaining a stance that doesn't stifle free speech.

Shapiro clarified that their approach is guided by the "Overton window," representing the range of politically acceptable viewpoints in mainstream society.

Owens had previously criticized Israel for its military actions in Gaza, a position that seemingly clashed with The Daily Wire's support for Israel. However, Shapiro denied claims of suppressing dissenting views, stating that Owens was not explicitly barred from expressing her opinions.

He cited the organization's stance on issues like abortion as an example of where significant divergence in views might not align with the platform's ethos.

Social media reactions: mixed responses to Shapiro's criticism

Amidst the controversy sparked by Ben Shapiro's criticism of President Biden's Easter proclamation, social media platforms became battlegrounds for divergent opinions. Users expressed a spectrum of reactions, ranging from staunch support to vehement disagreement with Shapiro's views.

One user wrote, "Stop crying, you're insufferable."

Another added, "Bro still made it about Israel."

One user wrote, "After what happened at @DailyWireNews I don't think it is appropriate for you to say what is respectful and what is not."

Another added, "Trans day is a jewish idea, ben."

One user said, "It’s too late, Ben. Don’t pretend to give a damn about Christian holidays."
