PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: The 2024 presidential election campaign has taken an unexpected turn as supporters of former President Donald Trump are embracing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to craft a narrative portraying him as a popular figure among Black voters.

In a strategic move to boost Trump's appeal, AI-generated images have been circulating online, depicting the former president surrounded by smiling Black Americans in what appears to be a show of support, as per New York Post.

According to Cliff Albright, the co-founder of Black Voters Matter, the AI-generated photos are part of a "strategic narrative" designed to propagate a specific falsehood. "There have been documented attempts to target disinformation to Black communities again, especially younger black voters," Albright told the BBC.

Mark Kaye, a conservative radio show host in Florida, shared one such AI image on Facebook, depicting Trump hugging a group of Black women at a party. Despite his post suggesting the fake people were actual supporters, Kaye denied spreading misinformation.

"I'm not a photojournalist. I'm not out there taking pictures of what's really happening," he told the BBC. "I'm a storyteller."

Another Trump supporter, using the X account "Shaggy," shared a satirical AI image mocking the former president but manipulated it to fit a supportive narrative. The image showed Trump sitting on a porch with a group of young Black men and the accompanying caption claimed it was an actual event where Trump stopped his motorcade to engage with fans.

As the controversy unfolds, the latest New York Times and Siena College poll indicates a decline in President Biden's support among Black voters in six key swing states. This shift is significant, with 71% of black voters expressing their intent to vote for the Democrat in the upcoming election, a considerable drop from the 92% who supported him in 2020.

Internet abuzz over fake AI pics of Trump

The revelation of Trump supporters utilizing AI-generated images to influence perceptions sparked a diverse range of reactions across the internet. One X user remarked, "A unique twist in the political scene."

Meanwhile, another user injected humor into the discussion, suggesting, "I think Trump should do a recreation of some of these photos, Lol. I would roll." Expressing skepticism about the need for AI manipulation, a third user commented, "He doesn't need AI pics. There are many of him and Black Americans."

Concerns about the broader implications of AI surfaced, with a user stating, "AI is dangerous." Intrigued by the motives behind such actions, a fifth user questioned, "But why? Are they trying to fool themselves or others?"

On a contrasting note, a sixth user simply stated, "Very cool!"
