LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hollywood's biggest night was a showdown of epic proportions as the 2024 Oscars ceremony unfolded. Jimmy Kimmy fires back at Donald Trump with biting response during 2024 Oscars

"Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC 'talent,' George Slopanopoulos," Trump's Truth Social post read.

As the audience held their collective breath, Kimmel seized the moment, firing back with a biting response that left Trump's remarks in tatters.

"Blah, blah, blah … Okay, now, see if you can guess which former president just posted that on TruthSocial. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I'm surprised you're still — isn't it past your jail time?" Kimmel quipped, eliciting roars of laughter and applause from the star-studded crowd.

2024 Oscars served as platform for political advocacy and social commentary

Beyond the Trump-Kimmel clash, the 2024 Oscars served as a platform for political advocacy and social commentary. Many attendees, including Mark Ruffalo and Billie Eilish, donned red pins to support a ceasefire in Gaza, while protests related to the ongoing conflict drew hundreds of attendees, causing a brief delay to the ceremony's start.

Upon receiving the Oscar for Best International Feature, Jonathan Glazer, the director of 'The Zone of Interest,' took the opportunity to address the violence in the Middle East, making connections to the themes explored in his impactful Holocaust drama.

"Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst," Glazer said. "It shaped all of our past and present. Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people. Whether the victims of October 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza, all the victims of this dehumanization — how do we resist?"
