NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Veteran newsman Dan Rather has once again taken former President Donald Trump to task, lambasting the controversial figure in a scathing social media post that has since gone viral.

In a fiery message shared with his millions of followers on X (formerly Twitter), Rather didn't mince words, branding Trump a "cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist, and vile man," as per Newsweek.

Dan Rather calls Donald Trump a 'facist'

"It's not about politics. I've voted for both parties," Rather asserted, emphasizing that his opposition to Trump goes beyond partisan lines. "It's about me, as a patriot, rejecting a cheating, lying, racist, treasonous, fascist, and vile man who attacks the free press, and wants to lead the country I love. It's really that simple."

The fiery statement, posted on Wednesday, April 3, has already amassed over a million views. Rather's latest criticism is far from an isolated incident; the 91-year-old has been a vocal critic of Trump for years, frequently calling out the former president's divisive rhetoric and controversial actions.

As early as 2016, the veteran journalist accused Trump of making a "direct threat of violence" against Hillary Clinton with his comments about "Second Amendment people" preventing her from restricting gun rights.

In 2018, Rather slammed Trump for a "racist" attack on LeBron James and Don Lemon, stating, "It's a disgrace." And during 2019 panel discussion on online extremism, he accused the then-president of tiring Americans with his never-ending social media posts.

Dan Rather urged Americans not to vote for Trump during 2020 election

In 2020 as the election approached, Rather advised Americans not to vote for Trump, warning that the country was "lurching towards a dangerous cliff of autocracy and chaos" under his leadership. "He needs to hold onto power for the sake of power. This is a battle for American democracy as we've known it," wrote Rather at the time.

Even after leaving office, Trump remained a target of Rather's scrutiny. In 2022, the legendary newsman penned an op-ed dubbing the former president a "misbehaving toddler" over the classified document scandal, criticizing his "utterly egocentric" worldview.
