WASHINGTON, DC: Former attorney general Bill Barr said on Saturday, April 20, that the "far left", not the former president Donald Trump, poses the true threat to the United States, The Hill reported.

Notably, Barr said that the former president's top focus will be appointing 'people he feels would be more subservient to him' in his discussion of the possible challenges a second Trump administration may face in finding candidates. The former attorney general called this an 'area of concern'.

Bill Barr claims the real threat to America is from ‘far left’ not Trump

Bill Barr told Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto during his Saturday appearance on 'Cavuto Live', "But at the end of the day, you have to remember I was serving in his administration. I was fine with his policies. I think his policies were good policies. My problems came with his behavior, which I found very troubling after the election."

Moreover, Barr went on to say that the 'idea' that Trump would usurp 'power' and become a 'right-wing dictator' is not a threat to the United States and that the "far left" poses the true threat to democracy.

The former AG said, "The threat facing our country is from the far left and the drift that’s been occurring toward really a socialistic system. It’s a heavy-handed bunch of thugs in my opinion, and that’s where the threat is."

Despite having previously criticized his former boss—the presumed Republican nominee for president—he makes these statements. Barr has earlier claimed that the worst thing that could happen to the nation is another term of President Joe Biden.

He said on Wednesday, April 17, "And while … Trump may be playing Russian roulette, but a continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide, in my opinion."

In response to a question about whether Trump's entourage of 'sycophants' will be sufficient to hold him 'in check', Barr stated that while some of those individuals may wind up there, the choice of Trump's vice president will be an 'important indication' of this.

He said, "I think an important indication will be his choice of vice president and what kind of person he picks there. I hope he picked somebody who is a strong conservative Republican and could serve as president of the United States if they had to."

Internet criticizes Bill Barr for his statement

Several people on the internet slammed Bill Barr after he said that the "far left" is the true threat to the United States and not Donald Trump.

A social media user wrote on X, "Lying Barr," while another added, "He's part of the problem." One person said, "True, but a little late, coming from a man who undermined the man he now endorsed."

Another stated, "Bill Barr should be in prison for crimes against humanity and treason."

One individual wrote, "Bill Barr is Trump's fixer, he lies for him, he covers for him and he is complicit in crimes for him. So it doesn’t matter what he says."

One person said, "After he did nothing to stop it, he says this."
