LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jon Stewart marked his return to hosting 'The Daily Show' after a nine-year hiatus with a vibrant kick-off on Monday, featuring election coverage and a humorous take on the recent mishaps of both Biden and Trump.

"Tonight we're debuting our election coverage in Indecision 2024: American DeMockracy," Stewart declared as he made his comeback on the Comedy Central show. Playfully experimenting with another title, he quipped to the audience, "Are you disappointed yet?"

Jon Stewart mocks election intricacies

Diving straight into the upcoming presidential election, Stewart tackled the recent Special Counsel report on Joe Biden's handling of classified information.

Highlighting the report's scathing details on Biden's alleged diminished faculties and faulty memory, Stewart humorously remarked, "The footage of the president unable to recall simple facts must have been brutal to watch." He juxtaposed this with clips of Donald Trump and his children being deposed, all responding with a collective "I don't remember."

Age and challenges in the spotlight

Addressing the age and potential challenges of both candidates, Stewart commented, "These two candidates, they are both similarly challenged. And it is not crazy to think that the oldest people in the history of the country to ever run for president might have some of these challenges." He emphasized that voters should not be expected to silence concerns and criticisms, stating, "It is the candidates' job to assuage concerns."

Jon Stewart's journey: From Apple's constraints to late-night liberation

Previously the host of Apple TV+'s 'The Problem with Jon Stewart', which was canceled in October due to creative differences, Stewart expressed his desire to unload thoughts about the 2024 election cycle.

Speaking on his return to late-night, he told CBS that he felt his speech was limited at Apple, describing it as "a television enclave" and "like living in Malibu." Stewart noted that his comeback was inspired by his understanding of the dynamics between two aging men past their prime involved in the election.

Stewart is set to hold down the fort on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle, serving as the executive producer for all 'Daily Show' episodes in 2025 and beyond, as reported by TheWrap in January.

Mondays historically attract the highest viewership for the series, with the rest of the week featuring a rotating lineup of 'Daily Show' news team members.

'The Daily Show' airs at 11 pm ET/PT on Comedy Central and can be streamed the following day on Paramount+. This change in hosting comes amid the ongoing search for a permanent replacement for Trevor Noah, who abruptly departed from the show in 2022.
