Joy Reid bids goodbye to her 1.9M followers on X, trolls say ‘don’t want her anyway’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joy Reid, the host of MSNBC's 'The ReidOut', deleted her X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, November 14, amid protests from Kamala Harris supporters regarding Elon Musk's endorsement of Donald Trump.
Though her show's X profile remains active, the @JoyAnnReid handle linked in its bio now shows the message, “This account doesn’t exist.”
Joy Reid leaves X, citing issues with site ownership
In a video explanation, Joy Reid said the decision stemmed from her discontent with the current ownership of X.
“Today I finally did something I’ve been meaning to do for a while,” Reid stated in the clip.
She shared that her choice to leave X, along with its 1.9 million followers, came because she hadn’t posted in a long time and wanted to avoid contributing to the platform under its new leadership, referring to Elon Musk.
“I just didn’t want to be contributing content once it was purchased by its present owner,” said Reid, as reported by Daily Mail.
She elaborated that she sometimes used X to check trending news but ultimately found it unproductive.

“Every so often I would use it to just look at news that was trending and what’s happening and I would just use it as an aggregator, but I just realized that’s not really worth it,” she added.
Reid explained that to use X for news, she’d have to deal with "a lot of dreck and just abuse and a lot of negativity, and it’s just not worth it.”
Joy Reid calls out 'patriarchy' in Kamala Harris' campaign challenges
An outspoken supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris, Joy Reid previously claimed "patriarchy" played a role in Harris' loss of North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes.
During MSNBC's election night coverage, Reid stated, “Black voters came through for Kamala Harris, white women voters did not."

“This would be the second opportunity white women in this country have to change the way they interact with the patriarchy.” Reid’s comments highlighted her ongoing advocacy and concerns over gender and racial dynamics in American politics.
Her decision came shortly after former CNN anchor Don Lemon and public figure Lizzo announced their exits from X, with both expressing concern over the site’s management.
