Katy Tur urges Kamala Harris and Gretchen Whitmer to run for all-female ticket to fight GOP 'machismo'
WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC host Katy Tur proposed on Sunday, July 21, that Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer and vice president Kamala Harris run as an all-female ticket to combat GOP "machismo." "I'm curious what you think of a full female ticket, a Harris-Whitmer ticket," Tur said in an on-air conversation with MSNBC host Joe Scarborough.
President Joe Biden declared on Sunday, July 21, that he would withdraw from the race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic Party's nominee. Since then, Harris has been working to solidify support from the party and has not yet named a running mate.
Katy Tur urges Kamala Harris and Gretchen Whitmer to 'go big on the Democratic side'
"Just go big on the Democratic side and push back specifically on all that machismo energy that we got out of the RNC," Tur said, according to Fox News. "Hulk Hogan on the stage. Donald Trump yelling ‘fight, fight, fight.' It's a very masculine ticket over there. What about going with two women?" the MSNBC host asked.
Legendary pro-wrestler Hulk Hogan gave a speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday evening, July 18, just before Trump accepted his nomination.
Alex Thompson suggests Kamala Harris may 'actually pick another woman'
Similar recommendations regarding Harris selecting Whitmer as her running mate were offered by a reporter named Alex Thompson.
"Maybe you actually pick another woman," Thompson said on Monday, July 22, on 'CNN This Morning.' "You pick Gretchen Whitmer. You basically say, ‘OK, you’re going to have Hulk Hogan and the chair of the UFC introduce you right before your speech at the RNC? Okay, we're going to go full boys versus girls here,'" Thompson added.
Ex-Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon says choosing Gretchen Whitmer would be a poor decision
Former Michigan GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon issued a warning, stating that Whitmer's inclusion on the presidential ticket would be "fantastic" for Republicans but a poor decision for Democrats.
"I think that would be absolutely fantastic for us as Republicans, because I know that she has strong weaknesses when it comes to debating and for her to go up against a Senator, JD Vance, that would be a very big challenge for her and would show the country exactly who she is," Dixon told Fox News.
Potential running mate for Kamala Harris
Democratic political pundits and analysts have also proposed other candidates to be Harris' running mate. Senator Kelley, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, North Carolina Governor Cooper and Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro are all possible contenders for Harris' running mate.
Senator JD Vance was named by Trump as his running mate in the 2024 election. In a speech replete with populist overtones, Vance promised to be a vice president who "never forgets" where he came from.
Katy Tur faces heat over 'sexist' comment
Netizens lashed out at Tur for suggesting Harris choose a female candidate as her running mate. Although the current situation in the Democratic camp is not known, it is understood that Harris will likely replace Biden as the presidential nominee, especially after several fellow politicians endorsed her publicly since the 81-year-old stepped down in a stunning announcement yesterday.
One X user wrote, "Talk about being sexist..." Another added, "LOL. They truly want a landslide defeat don't they?" "Kamala is not going to share the spotlight with another women," opined one while someone else said, "We must select the best qualified, not by race or gender. To do otherwise is a recipe for failure. We have seen that mistake all across our country & within our Gov't."
"What a mockery on the world stage," remarked one.
