WASHINGTON, DC: Acclaimed writer and activist Kevin Powell sharply criticized Snoop Dogg for performing at Donald Trump's Crypto Ball, held at the opulent Andrew W Mellon Auditorium as a part of the pre-inauguration festivities.

During an interview with 'TMZ Live' on Monday, January 20, the day of Trump's inauguration, Powell did not mince his words as he slammed the rapper, accusing him of being a sell-out and not caring about "the people who've supported you all these years."

Kevin Powell feels Snoop Dogg betrayed his fans in the back by performing at Donald Trump's Crypto Ball

Kevin Powell said, "Snoop wasn’t always this way." He, however, now feels that he's changed "for a bag of money."

He also expressed that Snoop Dogg's performance is proof of his "lack of values."

Powell went on to call out country star Carrie Underwood, who has previously voiced support for LGBTQ+ rights and gun control, for her decision to perform at Trump's inauguration ceremony.

"It's saying to me you don't really care about the people who've supported you all these years, including folks who may be Black or queer, etc. All you care about is your own career, your own access, and, again, that bag of money," the CSS Evangelist added.

He also asserted that the celebrities’ actions are "a stab in the back to fans who’ve supported their music and their careers."

Yvette Nicole Brown shares the same sentiments as Kevin Powell

Earlier, Yvette Nicole Brown also made her stance on stars choosing to perform at Trump's inauguration crystal clear, as per TMZ.

For her, if someone really didn’t want to be associated with Trump, they wouldn’t even consider showing up for him, despite the importance of the office.

"You know there’s a difference between us saying we don’t support a racist, horrible man, and that same racist horrible man saying the election was stolen. Nobody is saying the election was stolen, we’re saying we’re not celebrating the coronation of this horrible man, this felon," she explained.

"Why would you want to co-sign a man like this?" she asked. "Let me tell you this from a Black woman’s perspective. I don’t make any space for racism or white supremacy. If you dip your toe in, you want to keep your toe over there."

"He incited an insurrection at the Capitol. That’s who he is. And you can go, ‘But I’m gonna sing this little ditty 'cause I got an album coming up.’ I don’t wanna perform for that," Brown noted.

Ilhan Omar says one shouldn't 'compromise' their livelihood due to political differences

However, many have defended the performers, including Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "People are more upset at performers/artists attending Trump’s inaugural events but not upset at all the politicians who told them he was a ‘threat to democracy’ going to these events are not serious."

She continued, "Performers at least know they are there to perform and get paid, but these politicians who ran their mouths for 4 yrs and are now willing to be there and clap for him, that’s who they should be mad at. They lied to you and your criticism/anger should be rightfully directed at them."

Omar also mentioned that livelihood and loyalty are two different things, as she added, "In a free country like ours, people should be able to support any party they want without having their livelihood compromised."
