King Charles 'raised concerns' with Prince William as he refused to follow succession safeguarding advice

LONDON, ENGLAND: King Charles, known for his close bond with his elder son, Prince William, was in a dispute with William earlier this year.

According to Robert Jobson's soon-to-be-released biography about the Princess of Wales, the dispute arose from the prince's steadfast refusal to follow his father's advice on safeguarding the succession.

What happened between King Charles and Prince William?

According to a new book, Charles and William's dispute was over the royal family's safety flying in a helicopter. 

In Robert Jobson's biography, 'Catherine, The Princess of Wales', it is claimed that the King, 75, “raised concerns” with William, 42, about his helicopter use with Kate Middleton and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, which sparked a tense disagreement between the pair.

An excerpt from Jobson’s book, reveals that King Charles expressed his worries after confronting his mortality following his cancer diagnosis in February, as per People.

The King even presented experienced pilot William with “a formal document acknowledging the risks involved and taking full responsibility for his actions” amid their dispute, the new book claims.

Charles’ concerns echoed those of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, who had previously requested that William not fly with his family on a helicopter from Kensington Palace to Anmer Hall in Norfolk—a 115-mile journey—according to Jobson.

Queen Elizabeth “didn’t hold back” on her opinion, an aide shares in the new book, as she was haunted by the 1967 helicopter crash that killed her flight captain.

Elsewhere in the book, Kate, who is currently receiving cancer treatment, is praised for her “stabilizing influence” on William, especially regarding tensions between the prince and his father.

A source told Jobson that Kate “always tries to see both sides of any dispute” and is the “emotionally mature” one in their relationship.

According to the book, King Charles also values Kate’s positive effect on his eldest son. “I think the [King] understands Catherine is a good influence on the entire family. He loves and truly appreciates everything she does,” a courtier said.

Catherine, The Princess of Wales will be available for purchase wherever books are sold on August 6.
